Autotrain

its where you dont spend any points in a skill and so your trainer automatically raises it when you go to see him every 5(i think) levels.

Not all skills are affected like this. I suppose the one most people refer to is stealth on infiltrators etc. If you never train it, your trainer will raise it every 5 levels by 1 point to keep it at a minimum value.

The good thing is it doesnt cost you anything to do this except having a gimped stealth for a while.

Not all classes Autotrain. Some do it in more than one skill. The thing to bear in mind is it's always the important skill.

The most common autotrain system is to let a skill autotrain to level 40, then respec so that you haven't reduced your characters effectiveness by missing out. If you do this, you gain a few extra points over someone who hasn't autotrained. It's worth considering what the lack of the skill will do to you before choosing that route, though, especially if you haven't got friends planning to powerlevel you despite your lacks.

For example, a Paladin autotrains in Slash and Chants. The first is a good one to work with. You can easily live without Slash, just use Thrust or Crush instead, and later respec to Slash. Living without Chants, though, makes you far less effective, for 40 levels! (More if you're relying on the respec stones the Dragon will drop in the next patch.)
