all my folders on my harddrive gets auto protected, including my camelot folders wich means that i cant play daoc.. cuse it has to save some stuff in the camelot folder when playing wich locks up my computer and leads to me going ld every 15 min or so
anyways! the problem is that i cant get this folder protection of.. as i said befor it auto protects all the folders on my harddrive and if i uncheck the little block that says write protect windows or what ever checks it again.
So i cant uncheck that little box and if i cant do that i cant play :touch:
anyone know how i can get this crap to get unchecked? cuse i dont wanna ld every 15 min :(

er

a virus maybe?

unchecking the root drive should uncheck everything inside..

just did a ad-aware scan
allso i did a scan with norton antivirus after i installed the latest patch.
so i doubt it is a virus..
and when you say "unchecking the root drive should uncheck everything inside.."
do you mean unchecking the harddrive?
if you mean that how do i do that in win xp? o_O

yeah i meant that but i only realised windows xp doesnt have that option so ignore that

you could try going into C: folder and "unprotect" all the subfolders there...

if it still doesnt work try some other virus scanner as it does sound like one

messed up registry or something?

have u tried manually checking the registry? run regedit to see if any "weird" progs start up which sometimes even norton can't pick up?

You need to specify exactly what you mean by Folder protection....

Possibly even get us a screenshot to look at and see...

It could be many things :D

boot from a dos disk and remove the protection with dos commands and delete :)

attrib should be the dos command attrib -r i think for read only .. its been a while .. -s for system folder erm do a google search but heehee doing it in dos should work and bypass all the crappy windows stuff

formating is a last option and then i mean LAST option..
i got lots of programs and installing it all over whould take a long time..
Tried the Dos thing.. when you write attrib on the camelot folder it dosent have a R or a r only has a A.. so i cant remove the R thing.
Anyone got a clue? :eek7:
emailed GoA, Microsoft and Dell :touch:

formatting isnt that bad

i hate it as well having to reinstall 10-15gig/format

make a .txt file and make note of stuff needed to be reinstalled as well as cd-keys etc

helps loads

Being as you didnt answer my question about what sort of protection it has on it....

I'll guess that you mean the ReadOnly option on folders on your drives in WinXP. (which is greyed out?)

All winxp computers do this by defualt... but it doesnt not stop the directories being written to. Its even on my temp folder which obviously gets written to fairly often.

So your problems with daoc crashing probably arent connected with this.

Try creating a new file in your DAoC directory that your having a problem with - I'm certain it will make one fine.... just to prove that the read only isnt affecting DAoC becuase then at least you'll be able to forget about the protection thing and hopefully find out what really is the problem.

Remove shitty norton anti virus imo. thats probably whats protecting your folders incase of virii, and since daoc updates ur files from the net it probably thinks THATS a virus.

I hate norton anti virus, it stinks.

I go Commando ;)

Greetings,

In order to play Dark Age of Camelot, you cannot leave the Dark Age of Camelot folder write protected. Some information needs to be writen in files and if the program cannot do that, then you will encounter problems.

Yours sincerely,

I don't think the little block that says Read-only is your problem. It must be som grafic bug or something. I just noticed I got it on all my directories too and I have no problem at all playing or changeing any files. And if I check the files there is no Read-only on them. And it's the same on both my PC:s with Windows XP. But it is strange tho

i used to get that, but it wasnt all the time, just some times, does it happen on any other games? and by that i mean other ones that use all your memory etc, it could be a memory fault where it hits a part of the memory and it locks.

that doesnt look like a folder protection problem
u 100% sure about your internet connection?

it could be other processes briefly taking up cpu usage making daoc go slow or even freeze

could be a lot of other things

I have seen simular problems and that was the on board Network card on an Asus motherboard. A new nic fixed the problems for him. And it only affected the DAoC client.
