Aurora Borealis visible in UK

One of my best mates took image 2 and 4 on here. He was really pissed off with the massive lights on the lighthouse ruining his shots.

Actually the best place for astronomy is in the Lowlands in Dumfries & Galloway which has a certified dark sky park.

Fair enough, I would of thought being in the highlands would be better though as it's mostly unpopulated so would assume light pollution to not really be a problem? Obviously not that case though....highlands effected by the oil rigs then or...?

It's dark in the highlands as well, but your view in the glens where the access points are is obscured by hills unless you fancy ascending a Munro in total darkness.

Also worth noting that the Galloway Forest Park is anywhere between 1300 to 1500 feet at the high points anyway.

It was the best high ISO APS-C sensor before the D7000 and K-5 came along (and they are only slightly better).
