I should know this, but can't remember. I think there was a post about this very subject on VN Boards a while ago. IIRC, Aug Dex affected both Abom and Shade. Head over there and look to be sure, but as RAs transfer to the pet that I've bought (Toughness being a prime example), then I'd suggest it ought to work for both ;)

Aug dex will do nothing for your pet's casting speed (you can test/prove this by putting less than +101 dex in your suit and trying to get 3 PBAOEs off per FP - you won't be able to do so; then add as many levels of aug dex as you like, but you still won't get those 3 PBAOEs off; add the final few overcap dex points and suddenly you'll get 3 casts per FP).

It will, of course, improve your own casting speed.

Im running around with a drop suite on my necro, going by what looked right. No calculator or real effort involved. And i get 3 PBAOEs off per FP, each time.

Are you talking about without buffs?

getting the 3 pbaoes is all about timing.....

if you have no spell queued up on the necro and you press FP, and your abom has just swinged, then FP will fire BUT then you have got to press your pbaoe spell - which takes upto 5 seconds to cast (this is probably what you are doing). so you can never get your 3fp's off....

here is what i do... Cast you Damage sheild spell, once the animation has appeared that it has cast, then press your FP button, count to 2 in your head then press your PbaOE spell ONCE - If you timed it right you should then have a FP and a pbaoe spell queued up - the FP fires then immediately your pbaoe spell will fire, then count to 2 again and press your PbaOE, count to 2 and then PBaoE - voila you have just cast 3 :) (all pygmies dead bishbamboom).

You're wrong mate. I get 3 x PT off in one FP all the time in RVR and I am running about in a shitty RoG suit because I've only just got all the items for my template. High Dex is a must, agreed, but you do not need to cap Dex to get 3 x on any FP.

I read somewhere that +duration increases FP time, so I added 25%, and now seems like I get halfway on the 4th pbaoe before I get interrupted.
I can't be sure it works, but atleast it has never been so easy to get 3 pbaoe's off.

Thanks for the heads-up guys - I've learnt something from this discussion! Here are the points I'd like to make in reply:

1 - The original poster's question was if aug dex improves his pet's cast speed. My answer was (and still is) no.

2 - My tests were conducted many patches ago and seem to be a little out of date. A little searching on VN found this nice post from someone doing more recent tests:

http://vnboards.ign.com/Message.aspx?topic=89407822&brd=22324&start=89453572

Conclusions here are that 87 dex and above from items is confirmed to allow a consistent 3x FP casts. 80 dex and below is also confirmed not to allow 3x FP casts.

Time was when 101 dex was required to get 3x FP consistently.

So, to revise my initial suggestion for testing aug dex now...

Put +80 dex on your items and try to get 3x FP casts. You won't succeed. Now buy a few levels of Aug Dex and try to get 3 casts per FP. You still won't succeed. Point is that only dex from items transfers to the pet and improves its cast speed. Aug Dex won't help.

3 - I was the 2nd servant necro on Excal (Necrosavant being the original) and know how to get 3 casts per FP! ;) My tactic uses different visual triggers, but achieves the same effect:
a - Watch for pet swinging sword.
b - Hit FP and wait 1/2 second.
c - Cast first PBAOE.
d - When pet has the blue glowy balls around his hands, queue up the next PBAOE.
e - After first PBAOE explodes, queue up the 3rd and final PBAOE.

4 - Never heard anything about +dur affecting FP, but certainly an interesting suggestion for more tests! Do you also have +101 dex in your suit? (Ie. even +25% dur and +101 dex doesn't let you get 4 casts per FP?).

Conclusions:

1 - Aug Dex does not affect pet cast speed.

2 - You guys are right that +101 dex is no longer a requirement for getting 3 casts per FP. Seems like it's now something between +80 to +87 dex that's required. Perhaps you guys can confirm how much dex your necros have from items? Maybe one of you has less than 87 dex and we can refine this number a little more!
