Right

firstly, no it is not illegal to rip cd's that you own so don't judge me :p

I am in the process of ripping all my cd's to MP3. What is the best piece of software out there where it can get the information from cddb, rip and encode using a variety of formats/settings?

I am currently using Easy CD-DA Extractor 6.1 with a Pioneer A06 (using a custom firmware)

Comments please....

Exact audio copy (EAC) for all your ripping needs. You'll need the lame.exe which you can get from sourceforge. I think.

Actually it is in this country. You are thinking of Fair Use which is a peice of US legislation not English or Scottish Law.

It's a pity your mp3s sound like music being played through cats genitallia then.

I use CDEx as well, sounds ok to me. Then again all I want is to listen to music on my PC, not string it up to a sound system and critique it.

Using CDex, seems fine - though I should probably do a proper comparison with EAC at some point, just to be sure.

I must admit, I was suprised to learn about making copies being illegal. It's not just MP3 of course, it also covers tape. It's a little worrying really.

I downloaded a copy of NeoAudio yesterday to get some CDs onto mp3. The application itself seems to do a fine job with plenty of different options etc, BUT be aware of all the other crap that comes bundled, for example an annoying pop up Lycos search thing invading MSIE for a start.

Adaware version 6 did the trick nicely though to tidy it all up, and in fairness if you are careful in the installation process I think you DO get the choice to not install all of these components (I was just rushing it).
