Dont know if people have noticed but if you bid on an auction and then buy it out at a later point you lose the money from the original bid - beware!!

Not a bug, its a feature. If you have chosen to start bidding you'll have to follow through on bidding. Use buyout from start if its very important you get the item. If you got bid money back everyone would first try to bid on the chanse noone would bid over them, and then use buyout if someone did.

Surely if you bid first, then someone bid above your amount so you used buyout to secure the item...your original bid would be in the mailbox because someone bid more than your original bid.

eesh, too many bids.

Do they take the entire sum then? or just the difference?

u only need to pay the extra money needed to buy out, they add your current bid to that amount
ie bid 5s buyout 10s, if u have 5s bid then u'll only get deducted another 5s

As far as I've noticed only the difference is taken.
