I'd just like to point a few things out :-

For all you Quake 3 peeps out there who’ve been having wet dreams about being able to play CS you’ll be please to know u can know get what is essentially like a cheap blurry facsimile / photocopy of Counter-Strike that goes by the name of Urban Terror

- Have you even PLAYED the game ? Well ? Have you ?
- It actually plays more like action quake, which incidentally was out before Counterstrike
- Im sure ALOT of people view the barrysworld newspages, and I dont like the way you are 'rubbishing' what is in my opinion a very classy mod, with a lot of potential.

Why bother insulting a mod which is only at beta2 ? Im guessing you are a 'die hard' Counterstrike fan, and the presence of anything capable of 'taking over the spot' of your favourite game threatens you.

The way a common visitor to the bw site could interpret that news post :- "nah, I wont bother trying it. Barrysworld dont like it, they probably dont even have any servers running it.".

Whether or not you like it shouldnt be relevant. I thought opinions were supposed to go in the bw columns, not on the front page.

Does this project a good message to the gaming community ?

Im hoping you'll change the news post and be generally more supportive in the future.

Also to add to that,

the fact the the Urbanterror team were not aiming to copy or compare to cunterstrike. They REMOVED several gametypes only because they were like CS...

Posting a news thread when you are completely bias and uneducated on the subject is just a bit silly...

Chill guys, I'm pretty sure MysticG's comments are a tongue-in-cheek dig at various sections of the Quake3 community who have recently devoted considerable time and column-inches to rubbishing Counter-Strike.

Don't take these games so seriously, it's very bad for you

Right ok lets clear this up.

1. I have absolutely no remorse for that post. Its intention was to try and spice up the news, which over and over again has been criticised for being boring.
2. I have absolutely nothing against the Urban Terror mod/developers/players etc. The comments were, as only GrannY apparently managed to work out, a tongue-in-cheek piss take. I did this because far too often I’ve heard people (e.g. Arclight in his recent columns) say that CS is shite compared to Q3. Personally I don’t care what your gaming preference is as long as you enjoy it.
3. The news article actually stemmed from a 5am IRC conversation that I was having with, iirc, Bigfoot and Pandaflo, I asked bif at the time if it was ok to put this up and he didn’t seem to be bothered, so maybe you guys are taking this to heart a little too much.
4. As for people deciding not to download the mod because of a comment I've made, I believe you grant my words more power than they actually have. Personally my opinion is that anybody who played Q3 would have seen a CS player berating a mod and downloaded it out of spite to prove me wrong.

   Basically its about time that things in this gaming community were more light hearted, you may play Q3, I may play CS, others may play TFC, whatever game it doesn’t matter, it's about time that all the bitch wars between gamers stopped and we just joked about it, which is what I do. I make lighthearted jokes about games, if you lot can't stomach those I'd hate to be there when somebody gives detailed criticism about your favourite games.

I disagree completely.

Firstly, Urban Terror is very much intended to be a Counter-Strike-like game - hence the "borrowed" weapons, and references to CS in the FAQ.

I have played the MOD and found it very much as Mystic_G described. Whether it's more like AQ or not is a matter of interpretation.

Part of posting news is, where appropriate, posting opinion: and this was Mystic's opinion: whether you agree or disagree. Opinion rarely produces a balanced view: you either like marmite, or you hate it, etc.

It's got nothing to do with insulting a MOD, merely giving your opinion on it. If you don't like it feel free to start a thread, and soon, hopefully (*cough* Trebz *cough*) you'll be able to directly comment on news but as a newsposter Mystic_G is perfectly within his rights to post that.

If a visitor to the site thought that it was a view of BarrysWorld, they'd be wrong, as it is nothing more than the author's opinion. Of course, BarrysWorld will have servers running it.

Au contraire: opinions are encouraged in news posts, as long as they can be supported by evidence of some sort, which I think these can.

BW news is not meant to be your average boring news, which is why writers add their own opinions. I'm very disappointed SAS edited the news post and rest assured opinions will not be discouraged in news posts at all, far from it: whether they are supportive, or not, is up to the author.

Holding an opinion does not equate to bias: bias would be if Mystic_G were some kind of author of CS, or had some involvment in promoting it, which as far as I'm aware, he doesn't. Lack of education - I suspect that's just a petty jibe: his comments did certainly hold true though from my experiences.

My feelings are that Mystic_G was perfectly within his rights to post that comment, although ideally such comments should be more opened ended, so perhaps his should have gone more along the lines of:

That's possible where the problem came from don't you think? I must admit I completely missed the pisstake in the post. Maybe you should have mentioned the conversation in passing. It would actually have made an interesting news article imo and would have made it look less like you were trashing the mod.

All pitfalls of newsing m8 I used to get trashed for being 'Quake2 biased' whereas I saw it as redressing the balance due to the very loud voice of the QuakeWorld community.

Yeah mabye Speccy m8, although I think the true root of the problem was the fact that it was 5am and I was on the virge of fallin asleep at the keyboard. Also I remember getting "500 Internal Server" error messages when trying to get info of the UrbanT website, otherwise I would have actually expanded the article to counter the comment with quotes from the webby.

Well at least this proves that people out there actually read what's posted on the news.

I tend to avoid /news completely now, because its devoid of any style (shush mystic, this is not a snipe at you) and humour. As it goes, I appluade Mystic for attempting to spark some life into the (utter wank) news, unfortunately it wasn't well recieved. But then, most of the newsie's are reasonably new to the game (in comparison to the span of life tinky / speccy had)
