As the new gfxcards have started to be rolled out, Im wondering if anyone have any inputs regarding if they will improve the performance playing daoc, and by how much you think?

ANyone have any thoughts on this, or have tested it?

imo you wont see much improvement over a 9800 or 5900 untill catacombs. most the lag is in rvr, and untill they sort out the engine for when there are lots of models in one area youll almost always lag, even if its only relic raids.

as alrdy said, you won't see any improvements like less lag/crappy fps. this is down to the out-dated fx engine daoc currently uses. next thing with catacombs shud make some big changes.

while the new cards are launching, i would say don't bother buying the '1st generation cards', hold out for a few months. let the prices settle and any serious bugs get ironed out. while drivers can make a lot of improvements, don't fall foul of buying a card revision 1.0, when a few months later they launched better 'versions'.

depending on what card u have atm, a new 'trusted' card or reliable new 'generation' card will only really let you play with better resoluions and of course some wizzy-flashy antialising (sp?) etc.

gotta agree with that. every new card release is soon followed by a clocked version that improves it more, and has been thoroughly tested so we know it works. the other thing with these cards (if you are looking to upgrade) is the fact that one has pixel shader 3 and one doesnt. while this shouldnt effect even catacombs, im assuming you are a bit of a hardcore gamer to be considering these cards. so id probably wait till PCI Express and see if ATI take PS3 onboard, and then consider which card to get.
