Ok heres the problem

Every now and then when starting my pc i will get an electrical sounding crackle and nothing will happen ( when pushing power switch) i will then need to turn off mains power for 1 min and retry ..usually pc starts fine now.

second i am getting reports from AsusProbe of fans failing ...sometimes 2 at a time somtimes 1 ....(cpu, psu and case)sometimes one fan is over revving other is under ..other times both losing power. all 3 of these are plugged through mobo (obvousley for readings to be gotten). also am getting occasional reports of Vcore voltage changing briefly. This only seems to happen when playing games. voltages seem to stay steady when windows only and i dont recall alerts during windows/internet browsing sessions.

my setup is

Athlon XP 2600 cooled with zalman flower and 120mm ys-tech fan
Asus A7N8X deluxe V1.4 (latest Asus bios)
1 GB Corsair ram (2 matched 512) DDR333
Geforce ti4200 graphics
Using on board sound via digi output
30GB seagate 2mb cache HDD
80GB Maxtor 8mb cache HDD
DVD ROM
CD burner
Q-tec 550watt PSU
have 2 fans within psu and 4 case fans (one of which is reported faulty by Asus probe) all ys-tech.

Win 2K

i have swapped fans around with no change and this problem is intermittent and system may run ok for a week or so before it re-occurs

any suggestions ??

sound to me as though your modb is buggered

try going back a version on your bios* or removing some of them case fans, is it really nesissery to have 4 it could be overloading you mobo somehow

*not my fault if this brakes stuff

Change your PSU, and observe.

Also try unplugging every device (something may be short circuiting or have a dry joint), causing random power surges.

Check for loose screws.

check it your contact in RAM and cards etc, are gold on gold or gold on summit else, as this can cause problems as the gold is not hard enoughto scratch the oxcidation from the other metal.

PS tom, are you on the W&B forums if so whats you name there?

From experience, that sounds like your PSU is buggered.

the thing has now taken a turn for the worse ....now when just loading or running windows PC will shut off , green power light remains on ( which i take to mean power supply is still running juice through machine ) system doesnt shut then auto reboot just goes off and sits there , but rest of system is dead until i cut power for 2 seconds and reboot ...whilst idling in windows all fan speeds and voltages register ok. guess i'll have to try full strip down

Its your PSU.

Qtec arent the best in the world. I suggest you try a different one.
