Asus ISDN TA & Mandrake Linux 8.0

Guys

I've recently installed mandrake linux 8.0 as dual boot on my machine to dabble in linux once again. I have to say that in terms of installation it has come on in leaps and bounds in a year, correctly identifying all my hardware etc

One bugbear as usual tho!!!!!

I cant get my Asus TA to work correctly. The installation routines correctly identify it, recognise its pci, and seem to install and configure just fine. However, when I try to connect to the internet, (using the default dialer in kde), the box just expands to the edge of the screen & then says "unable to connect to the internet. Please verify configuration in control Center". Problem is, the control center recognises the adapter & seems to configure it fine. I have no other error messages & as you can imagine am a bit peeved.

If anyone could help I would be grateful, even if you could point me in the right direction (I have used linux before).

Well, to be honest, I don't have very much experience using KDE (I've only just set up a box to play with it) I tend to do everything using the command line. I did try setting up ISDN using the dialler and all seemed well but...no connection! much as you describe above.
As Mr Cable says, go and read my thread first and see if it helps, it may be that you need to tweak something "under the hood" so to speak.
Post your findings here and we'll try and help.

ASUS? Bin it.
No don't, it's a really good TA even though ASUS are w*nkers for that recent graphics drivers business.

Thanks lads,

I'll have a look at that thread, but tbh, this type of thing is the reason I gave up on linux the last time. I dont really have the time anymore to spend hours trying to get something as simple as this going. Maybe a couple of years ago yes, but now we'll see.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Well thanks a million guys, I am writing this response from within Linux!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried the various things from your post.

Looking at cat /proc/pci showed the card as having IRQ 12, but similar to flatus, cat /proc/interrupts showed IRQ 12 as unregistered.

So I used rmmod hisax followed by modprobe hisax type=35 protocol=2 and voila!, now the kde ctrl center allows me to dial up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry flatus I didnt do it the pure way like yourself m8, (i.e. learnign the innards of the isnd4linux subsystem :)) but the graphical dialer is fine for me :D

Thanks again lads
