Read through it, make some changes, run out of inspiration, save it.

Try to do some housework but realise CV is more important so return to the manacles of Word, read through it, make some changes, run out of inspiration, save it.

CV's are easy. Just list qualifications and work history, then bullshit your way through the rest ie, you love rugby, football, tennis, cricket having played all at some point in your life. You also do charity work from time to time, sponsored runs etc. You love reading and watching films etc etc. Then hopefully you will find some common ground with an interviewer and there you go, the job is yours.

Most applicants for jobs will have the same quals and work background, so its the common ground with the interviewer that will get the job. For my first job the guy was a huge rugby fan so I knew I was going to get the job. Putting "i enjoy socialising with friends at the weekend" is a big no no aswell, because employers translate that as "piss head" :)

Been on the other side of the interview process, going through CV's and application forms so I know what I'd be looking for. But its just so damn time consuming to find the right words :) Like how do you say that you strictly follow the procedures for SOx and ISO9001 without making yourself sound like a twat <grins>

Would you like me to send you my cv? Without sounding cocky, I think its pretty good, and having spent the last 2 weeks reading through nearly 1000 expert witness's cv's its certainly better than most of theirs. :p

Well, officialy when interviewing you need to ensure you ask the same set of questions to each candidate (sure you can probe their answers to find out more - but you need to keep to the same set of base questions) application forms provide a great way to compare possible candidates, but CV's provide a great resource for these probing questions - which are the ones that get you the job :)

A Good CV + a good application form is a winner imo

I know what you mean Tears, very time comsuming to find the right thing to say in a C.V. relevant to the job, but my friends advice worked a few years ago and I wrote the C.V. out for the job I was applying for and not some general one without sounding too obvious.

One thing I did struggle with was my hobbies lol.
Hmmm 2.5 years ago when I wrote my C.V I wonder if they would have accepted my hobbies consisting of : Drinking, smoking, playing pc games all night 3 hours before work, walking my dogs reluctetly, driving my car at 100 mph just to get to work on time, using the work net to craft on DoaC and trawl FH :)

I think I opted for Socializing, spending time with friends and family, playing computer games and raising cash for charatiy funds<coughs and hides> :)
EDIT: and yarr I used spellcheck when I did my C.V :)

Well ok, so I should have checked my pm's first :p
I've sent it to everybody who gave me an email address.
I've deleted some bits about the places I work for because I dont want people phoning them up going "omg lolxz tilda works here" etc.

Regarding my uni results; my first year was very bad, and i left them out on purpose. For this reason, my sister was ill last year and so I thought it better to leave them off, get asked for them, and then be able to say "i got this, but it was due to this" rather than put them down and then have people not give me a second glance.
However now I have my spiffy 2nd year results I shall be updating it with them :D As well as the other bits and bobs Ive done since february when I did this version.

Humm, thanks ... interesting.

Kinda the same as what I'd done, but first impressions count so I've plastered the stuff I would want to see right on the first page of mine.

Page 1
- Name
- Contact Details
- Statement, a brief paragraph on what I do, short and snappy
- Key experience listed such as 15 years supporting windows, 8 years server support

Page 2 goes onto education, qualifications and detailed system knowledge

Page 3 and 4 are previous employers with bullet points of what I did and my achievements while working there.

I guess page 1 gets people hooked, page 2 confirms i have the skills they are seeking then pages 3 and 4 backup that with evidence
