right...
i bought a new modem (diamond supraexpress 56i thingy). Installed it etc but when i plugged it into the phone socket, it made all the phones connected to that line beep (a long endless anying whore of a beep ;) .
so tried re-installing it etc but nothing works, so i decided to try it on my dads computer and it worked fine, any ideas why it dont work on mine?

any help would be appriciated
thx

who goes to the help forum? anyone? didn't think so.
try emailing PC Gamer - they have a section in which they deal with technical problems. They sorted out the problem with my monitor pretty damn quick.

I got this at my place at uni could be a few things:

Dodgy phone line box in your room, or dodgy cable on the modem to phone line.

To many phone aplliances connected to one phone line (there is a limit!)

Is your dads pc on a seperate phone line? Is it on a line that u did not insall yourself (i.e is the line with your pc, one of thoose cheap DIY extension kits?). Check all that out, and phone BT (or your phone company)on 150 and get them to test the line

But I don't know anything about this problem really. Just thought you might get a response in there.

right..
my pc - asas a7v mobo, duron 800... need any more info?
dads - amd k6-2 450 piece of crap ;) not sure wot mobo

i used the same phoneline my old modem was connected to b4 i got new one, and its same phoneline i am using now. also i used the same cables that i did with my old modem so i dont know wots going on :)

and if it just replaced my old modem, the number of things connected to the line would have stayed the same, so that shouldnt be the problem...

erm, tricky one int it :)

Mine did this also, I needed to get a new cable as one of the copper/brass strips was touching the other. That should solve the problem.

If not then, you will need to get a new phone jack as one of the inner wires must be severed, watch out installing it though as these phone lines carry quite a hefty voltage as I found out when I stuck a knife down to get a wire out ;)

its mostly likely the phone system has too many phones running off it, disconnect em all and then try again, and the other prob would be the modem line is using the wrong pins on the modem/socket, as in some cases only 2 are used, others its 4... and in different orders too... so u need the proper cable for that modem...

and as for the voltage going down the phone line... its not that much, its about 20 volts, which is nothing, and the currant is feck all...
