Lo all, 99 times out of a 100 when i try and connect to any server on counterstrike, it will take about a minute and a half and get to the "initizlizing and downloading" bit, and then it says, "could not complete connection attempt." Then i try and connect to the same server and it connects to it fast, anyways around this? And r there neways to make my connecting to a CS server faster? 1 minute and a half is beyond my miniscule patience barrier.

Dog,

i suffered this problem for a long time. There could be anumber of issues causing it

1. Processing speed.
My old PC (333 mhz with 96 mb) always took 2 attempts to load up
Whats the spec of your machine ?

2. Custom.hpk file too big.
This is the file which contains all the logos of every player which has been on a server you have joined. Check the size of this file (in your cstrike directory). You can safely delete this file - it will recreate next time you join a server. There is also a command which will restrict the size of thsi file.

3. connect speeds
I assume you have a fairly healthy connect speed to the server.

Oh kool mate, a good excuse to get a new CPU, hehe.

Cheers mate neway here it is,

1. Pentium 466 celeron (I think it is burning out)

2. Custom.HPK=1,016KB

3. I have a really good internet connection, 64K ISDN, i get pings of 75 on average which is decent

I reckon its the CPU, say it is burning out so i have a much better excuse to blag myself a new CPU, lol. Cheers alot mate, also another problem, it doesnt realy affect me but, everytime that window is up, it ALWAYS says "IPX socket name not found, disabled or something like that" wats with that? Cheers m8

You dont relly need the ipx.

check your shortcut for CS. In the command line there may be a -noipx instruction (if it isnt there - stick it in)

your command should look somthing like

\path\hl -cstrike -nopix

DOnt wait for it to say cannot complete connection attempt, just type retry as soon as it says connection accepted.

Aslo whats your config set to? You have ISDN make sure your config refelects that.

Edit > LMAO Pace 25mb! :)

YOU really shoudl set a limit for that, rather than just deleting it when it slows u down. There is a post on it somewhere ont his forum, do a search for custum.hpk.
