Many users have been reporting that they cannot connect to non-patched servers, so we shot off a quick question to Dave Georgeson to see what was up. His response:
That's correct. I'll post a news article about it. The network code was revved. It's a rare occurrence, but it's true.
So don't think you're alone, and expect a longer response in a bit from Qix.

Dave Georgeson just posted this on the Tribes 2 in-game news:
The servers will all need to patch and restart as soon as they can.
Servers that have not yet been patched will only be able to be joined by players who have not patched.
Servers that HAVE patched will only be able to be joined by players who HAVE patched.
This is because we had to rev our network code on this patch. This is a rare occurrence, but may happen occasionally when we're working on network issues.
