No offence intended, it's just that all weekend, wherever I've turned I've had images of the Big New Thing (tm) thrown at me. A bunch of vaguely talented (at a stretch) street corner thugs known as...I think this is how it is spelled, D-Side.
Now, they've been on TV everywhere, surrounded by dozens of screaming girls who seem to range from 10-15. The lyrics to their latest single's chorus, the lyrics which all these teenage girls seems to be singing along to, when they're not fainting from the excitement, go like this:
"If I was invisible, I'd just watch you in your room.
If I was invisible, I'd make you mine tonight."
Now, call me an old prude, but someone surely must be having a laugh here, like the Elvis Presley / Jailhouse Rock situation (as I'm sure everyone knows, it's an overtly gay song written by two gay songwriters who, I believe, were having a laugh at The King's legendary stupidity).
These lyrics aren't even ambiguous. There isn't a nice, remotely romantic thing that can be read into them. The only images they conjur into my mind are stalking, tom-peeping, rape, and fear. Has no-one seen Hollowman? Shit film I'm sure you'll all agree, but the scenes where he was perving on, then touching up and attempting to rape a young lady were most disturbing, yet now it's acceptable for the big new boy band to say it's their intention?
How can any girl think there's something nice about being watched by an invisible man and then "made his"?
WTF?
