Anyone switched from ISDN to ADSL ?

I'm seriously considering a switch from ISDN to ADSL, now my 12 month minimum contract has expired, my calculations work it out at around £12 extra a month from my current ISDN 24/7 unmetered service.

Can anyone give an idea on how their connection improved, right now the idea of a continuous connection with no cutoff, and no chance someone will accuse you of abusing the service, is rather appealing and certainly worth £12.

It's great for downloading pr0n. Not much of an improvement for games. I've still got both but given the choice I'd rather have ADSL. I'd prefer to switch to Nildram rather than BTOpenWank tho :)

seriously tho,dsl is meant to be bad for gaming.i hear a lot of packet loss stories etc.for me isdn is still fine as i dont do much "downloading" if you get my drift.

I upgraded from ISDN to ADSL with Nildram. Game wise I ping about 30-40ish on jolt/barrysworld/BY (full servers) playing RtCW, no packet loss, sometimes as low as 15-20 (empty servers). Downloading is f00kin great @ 60k. Plus Nilly are upgrading their main pipe soon so it should get even better.

Now im on blueyonder cable broadband....

When it first started i was getting pings of 11-30 no problems.

Now that its in demand a little, i get pings of 11-30 still :D

No gripes with it whatsoever apart from the 15k/sec upload i want a 1mb line!!!

Also d/l at 70k/sec cant be bad either

You won't see 1mb up for some time. They might offer people a 1mb down with 256 up this year at some point.

ISDN to ADSL here. I'm with Nildram. No PL, pings 25 (with maxpackets 30 in q3), or 35-40 normally. Gaming is much much better than isdn, if you go for the right provider. Downloading ....... well, there simply is no comparison with isdn.
If you can't get cable, dont hang around deciding between isdn and adsl, there simply is no contest, go for adsl.

But whatever you do DONT get ADSL with BT Openwank.
www.adslguide.org - go to compare and compare BT with
Freedom 2 Surf
Nildram
Eclipse-Computers
Pipex

Then you will see just how shit BT Openwank is.

Thanks for your replies, I have set a date to order it once I find out when exactly my 12-month ISDN contract ends, BT gave me a date but I don't believe them.

I have had a Nildram account for around four years now and I am very pleased with their service and performance, my main e-mail account is with Nildram so it makes sense to stick with them, not only that the sales guy agreed to refund part of my annual payment and Nildram have extended their £75 installation fee till the end of March.

It's mainly the cut-offs that get me down, playing online games and suddenly you get disconnected is a pain.
