Anyone here with Zurich Insurance?

My sister has just got home from holiday to discover a rather abrupt letter from Allen & Allen (sp?) who search for her cheaper car insurance, to tell her that her insurance with Zurich has been cancelled, and ordering her to return her certificate immediately. They didn't phone, or e-mail, just a rather blunt letter waiting on the doormat, so she'd been driving uninsured all the way across the country until she got home.

There was no explanation. She called the out of hours call centre, spoke to a guy in India who didn't understand what she was trying to say. She asked if they had gone bankrupt, and he said yes. And then said no.

Searching online doesn't turn anything up. Are any of you with Zurich insurance? Have you had your insurance cancelled? Any idea whats going on?

She paid out a full £200 in advance, so its not a case of direct debits failing.

My elders are, had no such letters or issues. I'd suggest waiting until tomorrow and giving Zurich a call directly and ignoring these idiots outright.
They're also certainly not bankrupt/in receivership/administration so I'd imagine there's something more to it, but any letter of cancellation must have a full explanation, without which it's entirely irrelevant and not legally acceptable.

Is that the full amount for a years premium? Sounds like its Allen and Allen who are messing around here - they have a diabolical reputation!

I have Zurich Insurance but no their car insurance.
I've not had any weird letters like that.

I don't think Zurich are in trouble...

I think it would be easier to write to Zurich rather than phone them. I know it takes a bit longer but at least you get a better response!

They insure our company Lorry, we've had nothing from either our brokers or Zurich saying anything like that. Sounds like a complete fuck up or a scam to me.

They then sent letters to her, which went "missing" in the post, and tried to call her, on a number they'd written down wrong, and so just cancelled her policy. Funny how the cancellation letter arrived, and nothing else did. She's had to pay out £67 to reinstate her policy. Sounds very dodgy to me.

Theres a ton of stories about Allen & Allen on the net - many of which feature documents that go 'missing'.

I had my car insurance with them at one time - pretty much every year I had to chase em for the insurance document - they are pants!

Hah, my sister is the opposite of me. I file things under shoes until I'm brave enough to read them. She's incredibly organised, and wouldn't just throw stuff away.

It's interesting what Rynnor says, because when my sister phoned Zurich they said her insurance was still active, but she still had to pay to maintain it.

Moral is: avoid Allen & Allen.
