I get that all the time. Occurs when I press back on the browser. This happens on loads of forums though, not just barrysworld. I think there is a problem with my PC somewhere.

Doesn't happen to me but it looks like a VB problem from the code at the top being misplaced, somehow.

I don't personally use the back function much on forums anyway, so never had the problem, myself.

It used to happen to me, then it stopped. I think an IE update may have fixed it (patch from msupdate).

I noticed yesterday that I've not got IE sp2 thingie, and though I've not had the code omittion bug for a long time, I probably ought to upgrade anyway. Might be worth doing so if you haven't too.

So! What do we have so far?

Issue
Text appears black on BarrysWorld (a vBulletin forum) in:

• Internet Explorer 5.0, 5.5 and 6, TdC reports same on Netscape at work suggests a non-browser related problem
• Embattle comments "...its to do with a compression format that VB uses known as GZIP which makes pages easier on bandwidth. Its mainly to do with how MS have implemented the HTTP 1.1 protocol." but what does he know?
• Issue is sporadic though more likely to occur when back button is used (confirmed by Nibbler and Sturty) - Suggests problem with webcache, either local or at your ISP
• CSS could be the casue (suggested by Jas) though a CSS test seems to work okay
• Ch3tan reports the same problem and that it was "ISP's blueyonder and their transparent webchaches fault"

Actions
Dunno. Clear your local Temporary Internet files, press CTRL+F5 to force a refresh, ignoring local cache and complain to your ISP about transparent webcache.

Or something.

Incidentally a Google search and MS Knowledge Base turned up nuthin.

it's just the css not being applied (or partially applied). It can happen on pretty much any webpage. Press refresh and it'll fix itself

This is a weird problem.
I used to have a 56k connection, and it never happened, but ever since I've had broadband (BY), I get that error on several Php-orientated sites (audiogalaxy being another), when I try to refresh through the browser (IE5.5), or in some cases, click 'Back'. However, using the little

link (next to the "Barrysworld Forums" heading up the top of the page) to refresh, the error never occurs.

This is worth highlighting because to my knowledge its correct.

So why are you still discussing it? Its just the way IE (and NS too, in some cases) handles and renders code.

Read my first post. It generally only happens here *WHEN* I refresh.

i use both NS and IE. both dont have that problem (was going to say "work perfectly fine" but that would be stupid as it would then instantly crash)

I wasn't aware NS rendered code, just made some pitiful attempt at deciphering it, then crashed.
