Any way to increase view distance in HL?

Google yielded no results, so I'm calling on the combined intellect (heh) of you fluffy people.

Is there a way of increasing the view distance in HL and its lovely mods? On several maps (specifically in DoD) I can't see the far end of the map because it hasn't been drawn.

I doubt increasing the view distance would constitute cheating as I'm sure this view cut-off wasn't part of the map design. ;)

Anyone? Bueller?

the view distance in a map is actually set in worldcraft when the map was made.

Extracting the entity file from the map, uping the view distance and importing it back into the bsp will fix it but the server will require this updated bsp.

I had the same problem so I switched to the highest resolution, on 32bit graphics on OpenGL not Software...

Thanks, bee. I was hoping I'd just have to stick somthing like 'set viewdistance=9999' somewhere, but no... :(

Um... I'm running OpenGL on highest res, Psy2K. :/ That won't chenge meh view distance, though.

Are you running HL in 32bpp with dither disabled? It wont improve view distances but it will remove any blurring of objects in the distance.

Um... not sure.

I've haven't done any clever modifications to it. Just selected OpenGL and the screen res in the options menu.

Do I need to force 32bit colour in a .cfg file somewhere?

That said, I've not noticed and bluring of distant objects, just that they're not drawn.

To enable 32 bit, add "-32bpp" to your command line in the shortcut.

and find the line in your config.cfg that reads gl_dither "1" and change it to 0.
