For placing the mines, in the defender mission, I place in a line with where my leader places them, and one just before the leader's mine on the road, However one tank always gets through, because some soldiers prevent me from chasing the fleeing tanks. I always get three red crosses (so I can't proceed), I can complete the 2nd obj but some tanks always get through

Place a mine a long way up the road. You'll see the best spot if you watch the fleeing tank veer off the road. Place the mine where he gets back on it.

If he misses it, try a long range shot with the bazooka. Don't use the scope on it though, it sucks big time.
