Hiyas, I need some advice on behalf of a friend.
Basically, I'm a barman as most of you know, and I work with a bunch of people, two of whom are coloured. The head doorman of the club is inherently racist and has repeatedly made racist/derogatory comments at these two.
Tonight we had a drinky after work "on the house" as a thank you from the management team. The doorman in question noticed that we were talking to a girl that he liked and he wanted her to go and sit with them (himself and a number of doormen/management/etc). She said "no", because we were having a good chat at the other end of the lounge. She kept on talking to us and then said, a couple of minutes later, "I'll be disappointed if I find out you slept with a nigger" (direct quote, still frozen in my memory). One of the guys who the comment was aimed at responded with threats that if the doorman made any more little comments like this, he would report him to his superiors and file an official complaint etc...
On the walk home (just me and the 2 "victims" walked home) the doorman drove past us as we were crossing a roundabout, then went all the way around the roundabout and pulled up next to us. He then proceeded to threaten the guy that questioned him in the club with violence, such as "watch your fucking back" and the like. My mate said "is that a threat?" and he responded with "no, it's a promise".
I'm sickened by what I've heard today, and I'm sorry to bring this up on a "happy" day, but it's fucking annoying the hell out of me. We could tell that he didn't put much thought into the second meeting (when he pulled up next to us at the roundabout) because it only dug his hole a lil bit deeper. We think he used it as a way of stopping us from reporting him to his superiors, using his physical superiority as a weapon. So, we think he is scared. But the thing is, if he responds this way after threats of taking it to management, how will he respond when they actually do report him and what will he do if something actually comes of it (demotion, suspension, firing, etc).
Basically, we want to know if anyone has been through this in the workplace before and what (if any) action they took against it and what the outcomes were. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Anyway, I apologise if this post makes negative amounts of sense, but I'm in a blind rage and halfway through a massive joint and well, bollocks.
Thanks for any time you spend reading this, and flamers and people with stupid one word answers please don't bother replying.
