Any lawyers?

Hiyas, I need some advice on behalf of a friend.

Basically, I'm a barman as most of you know, and I work with a bunch of people, two of whom are coloured. The head doorman of the club is inherently racist and has repeatedly made racist/derogatory comments at these two.

Tonight we had a drinky after work "on the house" as a thank you from the management team. The doorman in question noticed that we were talking to a girl that he liked and he wanted her to go and sit with them (himself and a number of doormen/management/etc). She said "no", because we were having a good chat at the other end of the lounge. She kept on talking to us and then said, a couple of minutes later, "I'll be disappointed if I find out you slept with a nigger" (direct quote, still frozen in my memory). One of the guys who the comment was aimed at responded with threats that if the doorman made any more little comments like this, he would report him to his superiors and file an official complaint etc...

On the walk home (just me and the 2 "victims" walked home) the doorman drove past us as we were crossing a roundabout, then went all the way around the roundabout and pulled up next to us. He then proceeded to threaten the guy that questioned him in the club with violence, such as "watch your fucking back" and the like. My mate said "is that a threat?" and he responded with "no, it's a promise".

I'm sickened by what I've heard today, and I'm sorry to bring this up on a "happy" day, but it's fucking annoying the hell out of me. We could tell that he didn't put much thought into the second meeting (when he pulled up next to us at the roundabout) because it only dug his hole a lil bit deeper. We think he used it as a way of stopping us from reporting him to his superiors, using his physical superiority as a weapon. So, we think he is scared. But the thing is, if he responds this way after threats of taking it to management, how will he respond when they actually do report him and what will he do if something actually comes of it (demotion, suspension, firing, etc).

Basically, we want to know if anyone has been through this in the workplace before and what (if any) action they took against it and what the outcomes were. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Anyway, I apologise if this post makes negative amounts of sense, but I'm in a blind rage and halfway through a massive joint and well, bollocks. :(

Thanks for any time you spend reading this, and flamers and people with stupid one word answers please don't bother replying.

What an absolute waste of air this bloke sounds. He's threatening the black guy because thats what bouncers do, he probably ain't scared of being reported he just wants people to think he's tough. Much as I agree with Nos(battering him/getting him battered), it won't help.

Its hard Cally but its kinda not up to you what happens next, obviously you can back your friend up, being a witness etc, and stand by him throughout the proceedings.

Get your friend to report him, rest assured I doubt he will do anything, I mean he was pissed last night and he did nothing, so he probably never will.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Pretty simple. Don't bother reporting him to his bosses - report him to the police.

What he's done is comitted a criminal offence in front of witnesses. It also happens to be one that the judiciary look particularly unkindly on.

Tell them you want them to prosecute.

That'd cheer his Christmas up :)

If he was drinking, get his licence plate number, and report him to the Buzz, if i remember rightly, you can get £500 for giving out information about Drink Drivers.

It looks like this guy just wanted to look big, and making abusive/sexual/threatening comments is what they do.

Now, if he continues to give out comments like so, why not get one of them Recorders and catch him in the act? Then report him to the police

Firstly, only if it leads to an arrest. Secondly, this issue is hardly one where a little bit of cash will rectify it.

Forgot to mention the part where you can't do that - it's illegal. (Unless you cunningly manage to inform him that you wish to record and he agrees. That's if you want the evidence to stand up.)

Discrimination is untolerable. Get the victims to complain. Get the "bully" shot.

Actually, provided you are recording the conversation in a public place, it is entirely legal, but even better is combining this with video footage, which can be used as evidence.

If he loses his job, it will probably be as the result of a criminal prosecution, and if he makes further threats, hes gonna get into more trouble. I'd stand up for yourself, and shop him.

You never know, he might have a previous conviction, which might help your situation. Racial intolerance is a crime that the police take very seriously, and so would the management of the club - refusing to act might just lose their license.

I agree with Tom, keeping quiet about this is not the way to go... report him to the police etc scum like that must pay...

Incidentaly how did the girl the bouncer has a thing for react to his racist statements?

Yeah, you have to take these things seriously if you want to be as good at it as they are..

Don't make the mistake of believing everything you read in the papers - they're there to make money, not to give an unbiased report on the news. The police represent a broad cross-section of society, and there are bound to be racists in their ranks, just as there are in our society.

Yeah, well, thanks for the pointers people. :)

His boss at work had words with him and he formally apologised and it's been pretty smooth sailing since then... Fingers crossed. :)

It would be a happier ending if the racist cunt were lying dead in a pool of his own shit... but that will do... glad things have worked out for him :)

Nah he's saying it's alright to be racist to the darkies as they're coming over here taking our jobs and women.

I read it more like dohboy tbh :/

Danger, you don't know hardly anything about this guy, yet you're wishing him dead. Callous and his friends clearly know more about him than you, and it appears that they're satisfied with what has happened.

You do pick the worst moments for sarcasm, Scooba.
