Can anyone shed any light on this one

Upgraded PC recently, the old one i used for PS was ok just struggled a little at times so new specs are...

2.4 Athlon
1 gig DDR400 (PC3200) RAM
Geforce FX5600 256 meg
Nvidia Nforce2 motherboard

Soundcard is my old one, SB live

Anyway, no matter what graphical settings i have, i seem to get what can only be described as a video jerk.

I've turned everything off and run at 16bit colour and it run exactly the same as having everything on, inc the Nvidia AA and filtering.

It gets worse if i'm flying through trees

Any help would be appreciated

I get it aswell on a...

Athlon XP 2600 @ 2.5
1GB DDR 400 (3200)
Radeon 9800 Pro
SB Audigy 2

People have said its your connection, but im on 2mb so i doubt it can be that :(

Also.. i cant bind Zoom to ANY key, anyone had the same problem and found a fix for it?

same here, i got a TOP spec PC but cant run the Music at the same time as playing, dunno if you do have music but try turning it off, especially on cyssor(?) the swampy planet, also maybe turn of the detail web(?) textures. I know you shouldnt have to and personaly i find in an insult to have PC that spec and not be able to run the game 105% quality.

What you all have is a Vertical Synchronisation (v-sync) issue. Not sure of the exact technical reasons behind it, but if your screen refresh rate is 'out-of-sync' with the speed the graphics card is displaying images you get the 'tearing' effect you describe, most noticeable on the edges of objects as you straff. I get this on every game using the Quake III enhine, for some reason.

In PlanetSide, go to Video Options | Advanced and select Vertical Sync. This should sort out your problem.

If there's no improvement with this and you have a nVidia card, download the CoolBits registry entry which allows you to force v-sync on all the time.

I'm running an xp2600, Radeon9700 pro and 512RAM and have no problems at all, so I'm sure you should be able to get it running ok.
I've never had an Nvidia card, so not sure what tweaks you have to do with them. I have to run my card at 4x agp to get any sort of stability out of it.
Tried setting hardware acceleration (in the display settings -> performance menu) down a notch? Tried running with fast-writes disabled? Do you have any anti-virus or firewalls running that might be slowing things down?
Is the HDD new as well? I would assume it is, but if not a defrag might help.
Does the problem occur in any other demanding applications like PS?
Sometimes it's better to go to a slightly older driver set, see if there's any difference.
What resolution do you run in btw? I have it in 1024x768 and it's smooth, slight stutter when approaching a heavily defended base, but there's a lot for the game to load so it's to be expected.
Hope you get the problem sorted :)

Just switched back to my GF4 Ti4200 64meg and it doesnt have any trouble at all, could possibly just be a crap fx card (was cheap)

I'll try the v sync things you mentioned tho Summo, cheers

I believe the game has issues with Radeon cards, but I could be wrong. I seem to remember reading this on the official forums ages ago.

Tidus, your PC is a similar but slightly worse spec than mine - and mine copes brilliantly with everything ramped up. I get some chugging in big battles, but that's cos I only have 512Mb :D

I have a 2.4gig HT P4, Intel 865 Mobo, 1gig of DDR3200, GF4 Ti 4400 etc - and sometimes I get skipped frames or jerky graphics. Usually after I've been playing a while, and a complete reboot solves it, so I'm reckoning there's a memory leak somewhere in the code.

Yeah I have a Nvidia 64mb card and I've noticed when in Cyssor I get a chugging motion, very subtle but there nonetheless.

Only Cyssor mind..must have something to do with all the mist effects.

Jesus is a superhero in some sort of work of fiction isn't he?

Hollywood will do a remake I'm sure.

"Jesus and the Skidding Motorbike"

Blasphemy indeed :)

Game crashed on me the other night, after playing for a couple of hours... When I finally made it back to my desktop, there was an error code pop up box that said ''blah blah blah out of memory''...

So yes this game leaks memory like umm a thing that leaks alot... ;)

Interestingly the yanks were recently asked to participate in one of those "Top Ten" surveys. The list being compiled was of the Top Ten Americans.

Predictably at number one was Homer Simpson.

Also predictable in its own way was the entry at number 10 - Jesus. That's right - the Son of God was selected as the tenth greatest American. Says rather too much about the yanks, doesn't it?

Jesus was American?!?!?!?!?!?
Oh Lordy, how disillusioned they are.

Maybe the confuse him with Superman?

We shouldn't bash the Yanks so much....hang on we're not...they do it to themselves with these revealing polls!
