I'm trying to get Q3 running on my bro's machine - a P2 with a Creative Banshee.
Got most recent drivers, opengl, DirectX 7a.

Problem is, when we try and run the game, after the initial console startup, it bombs out with a 'null src' error.

Anyone got any ideas - had a similar problem that they've solved.

Hi I had a similar problem last night I ended up reloading the game. If it comes up with something like expecting version 3 instead of 4 the installing latest update from barrysworld (point release something 3meg) should fix that. replace everything and try again.

I assume that the full error is "Q_strncpyz: NULL src".

If so, then you have problems with your video driver, specifically the OpenGL part. You need to look for updated video drivers, or reinstall the ones you have.

BTW, what OS are you using?

Sowat - yup - the error message is as you say.

The real bugger is I'm using the most recent drivers from the Creative site.

One interesting development - tried it again today, and when I install, it works fin first time you run Q3 - then everytime after that I get this bloody error message.

oh yeah - the OS is Win98SE.

You could try using the WickedGL drivers. Apart from anything else, they provide a nice performance boost.

Look to www.wicked3d.com and follow the links to WickedGl. You have to register, but it's free.

try using the latest reference drivers from www.3dfxgamers.com. the OEM manufacturers of older cards like the banshee may not have updated the drivers to be fully optimised for q3/dx7 etc - i know this was the case with my old voodoo1. remember to slap dx7.0a back on after installing the new drivers.

I have a Creative Banchee and the only drivers i could get to work were the lastest version of GlSetup (ver .11 i think).

This gave me 15/20% pfs increase over the previous version!!!

To download the lastest version go to www.glsetup.com and choose the web based install or its a 50mb download!

I run it on p450 with 192mb ram and it gives an average of between 35 and 45 pfs in 640*480 and high quality detail levels.

Run the latest Version of GLSetup m8

I had a Metabyte Banshee card and I could only get Q3 to run with those drivers from GLSetup. To be honest, the banshee copes resonably well with Q3.

45-50 fps ain't bad at 800x600, 16bit Colours, medium Textures.
