Anyone know if Iridium Pentafluoride is hazardous to human health ?

m8 of mine just phoned up asked if this stuff was dangerous, sounding rather panicky then suddendly hung up...

Tried calling him back to ask WTF and get "person unavailable" network answer.

pretty sure iridium isn't that reactive... dont think it occurs much naturally though. It could be radioactive :p It's close to gold in the periodic table.

well, I hope your mate is okay...

I'm no chemist, last time I sat in a chemistry class was about 7 years ago, but iridium itself is a platinum like metal, really hard, and really unreactive, therefor not toxic.
Hoever, iridium can be reactive to certain molten salts, and that's probably how Iridium (V) fluoride is made.
Haven't been able to find anything concrete about that stuff, but Halogens (like fluoride and chlorine) are toxic in large quantities (there is a slight percentage always in the air we breath which doesn't do us any harm)

I've got no idea what the combination of the two does. It appears to be a yellowish crumbly substance. not gaseous.

a quick google suggests that pentafluorides are hazardous.
however, there is no mention of iridium pentafluoride specifically is hazardous.

i hope your friend is ok.

i think if u cant buy it in mcdonalds then going by the law of science we can conclude it must be hazardous.

there's a difference between fluor and fluoride, one is non-toxic and good for the teeth, the other pretty toxic :D

same as methanol and ethanol. the first will make you blind, the other will make you blind for female uglyness :p
