Another DAOC Defector

Hi folks

I have ordered SWG and it will be with me shortly, any info on wat server to play on would be helpful. Im UK based, also is DirectX 9 a minimum required spec , if not wats the game like on DirectX 8 +?.

I will for the current mean time be playing on shitty 56k dial up until i get ADSL installed. How does the game run on 56k, also does choosing certain servers affect your connection rate speeds?

Any other information available would be great, no matter how trival it seems.

56k is fine from what im told, does get laggy in big cities tho, but i get lag even on adsl.

It is indeed a DirectX9 game.

Most UK players seem to play on Lowca or Eclipse (the unofficial Euro server).

Best to play on an East Coast server, much better ping, less lag etc.

All servers go down at lunchtime (UK) for an hour or 2 everyday.

The customer support is good and they are getting to grips with all the bugs as fast as they can.

The game is still a bit buggy and certain classes have "issues" that need adressing, but its still very playable.

Perhaps the best tip i can offer is to familiarise yourself with how the interface and radial menu works, it will seem very awkward at the beginning compared to daoc, but once you get used to it, its a great system.

Do the introduction training, it is very helpful and will help you master all the basics at the same time its not too long-winded.

Well Vipr, me and my friend have ordered SWG and we just w8ing to get it to our door. If you pruhapse buy the game and wanna play with to other guys that is ne to game start play on Lowca server because it is there we will be hanging around. if you start playing on lowca give send me a mail on wigge_88@hotmail.com and tell me your in-game name. btw me and my friend will be using the Teamspeak program Ventrilo, so if anyone of you purhpase wanna team up we would be glad if u get this program at http://www.ventrilo.com and downlaod Ventrilo Client. the game is way better than people let on

and yeah the lag seems to be down to major cities only as i have adsl and i lag there as well sometimes

oh btw i went on a tusken raid last night with a group of 20 people and it was so smooth i luv those banthas

Sounds like i need to upgrade to directX 9, gotta feeling it should be on the game disk when it comes. I heard that once directx 9 is installed u cannot unistall it, and should make a copy of your existing dirext X etc incase of any problems. Any truth to this?

Also is a seperate chat client required like ICQ, etc, or does the game have an built in chat system like DAOC?

Anyways the game should be delivered to me hopefully on 18.08.03.

Your gonna need a third party chat server im afraid m8.

And yes DirectX 9 is on the disks, not sure about the wipe thingy tho, as far as i know you can uninstall DirectX and reinstall it whenever you want to.

Being DirectX tho, its prolly best to make a back-up then upgrade to DX9 as you say.

Mines ordered from www.gameplay.com/. Ive ordered a few items from the site and never had any problems.

Another site you could try is www.gamestop.com/. Ive never ordered from this site, so i dont know what there there service is like.

Maybe not all, but a reasonable percentage, I have switched from DAOc too..

Not me. Will need something a little better than this to get me to leave all my friends in daoc. Especially without a chat system? how would I talk to anyone in game!
