Another cunty neighbours thread

Any advice appreciated! Nothing involving revenge though, I have kids to think about.

Rough backstory. Moved into a place (rented) 3 years ago. Most neighbours nice. Neighbours X on our right started nice, seemed decent enough. Yet as time went on they've been getting arsier and arsier, mostly aimed at my wife. She's naturally loud and so be it.

It started with Mrs X spreading malicious rumours about my wife around the school playground when dropping the kids off. Some just daft, some outright malicious and libelous (bad mother, beats her children nearly to death etc).
Now they're kicking off at every little thing - the noise our kids make (They have kids too, they're just as noisy), the noise my wife makes when angry (lots of reasons to be angry with cunts like that next door) etc. We've already tried the "being nice" thing; gone round, said if you have a problem or want to suggest something, come round for a cuppa and discuss it rather than shouting over fences/gates and verbally abusing my wife (fat, loud bitch, stupid bitch are some examples).
Now last night we had a problem with my son who was kicking off at 10pm for 40-45 minutes and we were trying to calm him down constantly before just having to leave him - he finally dropped off to sleep at just before 11.
This morning we find a post on one of those god awful "Spotted" facebook pages.
"Wish my retarded ugly neighbours would shut their fucking kid up. They know who they are, she has one tooth and he stutters".
It's anonymous and it's clearly aimed at us - my wife is short of teeth at the front pending surgery, I do stutter and they're the only people that could have heard last night.

Clearly they're being fucking morons, unreasonable and childish. The only reason we can think of is that they own their home and the rest of it is all rented or social housing. X thinks she's the queen bee and they won't be happy until Mr and Mrs Ancient and Quiet move in. We don't really want to move again as it means moving my son to another school away from his friends. However it might be the lesser of two evils, raising deposits on the other hand is near impossible

Anyone have any sensible suggestions on how to go forward? I really do have to stop myself from levelling the silly bastards for the sake of my kids, and I think I have grounds to go the police but don't really want to waste their time.

Just post on that page and tell them they are not big and they are not cleaver and what they are saying is illegal and amounts to playground bullying. Then say in public that if they have a problem with you they should be adult enough to come and speak to you about it rather than shouting snide remarks and posting on Facebook.

I don't know where you could get advise from but maybe the CAB can advise? Getting the police involved should be a last resort.

My favorite when we had some arsehole neighbors was fighting back. If they stayed up listening to music till 3 or 4 am I gave them a good dose of Whitney Houston at 7 am till they knock on the door but then I don't have kids.

Write a letter. Tell them in polite but firm terms that the harassment stops, that the libel stops that:

Tell them what you know, how you feel and advise them never to mention/talk/whisper about or to you again. Point out it's a simple request that will keep them out of court, and possibly jail.


If that doesn't work, call the cops and show them what you've got.

The other option is to simply ignore them...

Complain consistently to the school, if you get their kids eliminated from the school then you'll hopefully have happier kids and they'll hopefully be too busy looking for new schools to bother you. It can't make things any worse.

If you can prove she's spreading lies about your wife surely you can take her to court for slander? that should shut her trap quite fast... as for the situation in general if the neighbours are also renting their home try contacting the housing association and explaining whats going on and demand something be done about it? we had trouble with a neighbour years back (had a knife to my throat so not really the same situation but they did say if you can prove they're intentionally being cunts they could either evict them or serve them a notice saying if they keep it up they're out)

Document everything, get some of those cheap CCTV/Web Cam jobbies if you can. Report them to the school for getting the kids involved first off, that is not cool. Then report them to the police for being utter cunts, once you have some proof.

Scouse - Fortunately it's not even "what our kids have told us". It's whilst walking to school (my wife & son, her & son), my son was talking to mum and both could hear Moron X and her child taking the piss out of his speech followed by a congratulatory remark from her. It's playground behaviour; especially when she's never brave enough to do anything when there's anyone else around.

For practical purposes Kryten, unless the police get involved with the harrasment, which may or may not make things better or worse, I think you may simply need to ignore it.

In terms of your kids - there are ways to advise them to deal with bullying if they're experiencing it. Firstly talk to the school. Secondly, if your kids are being physically bullied the last thing they should do is take it. I hate to say fight fire with fire - especially to kids - but this sort of stuff can't be allowed to go on for years. So if it continues then I wouldn't feel bad about telling your kids to fight back rather than just "run to a teacher" or "ignore it". Bullying continues if allowed and physical bullying continues if it doesn't hurt the guy bullying you...

It;s worth noting my kid in school is 4. The concept of someone older bullying him is still beyond him. He wants to blow raspberrys and jump.

Sounds like your neighbours are 4 the way they're going on, good job police are doing something tho, let's hope they weren't talking bollocks and they actually do something.

Confirmation yesterday - already got crime reference numbers and what-not. They'll be visiting them (asked me for preference whether uniformed or plain clothed) to "lay down the law" - hopefully a visit with warning of intentions will be enough to make them realise what they're doing is really rather daft. If anything occurs after that, either as a result of the police's visit or not, it will all be used in evidence against them. Really can't knock the police, they've been awesome and really supportive. The fact that they're actually interested is already a great relief to my wife who this has hit the hardest. I have an awesome CCTV setup now, so anything that mysteriously happens to my car will be recorded (reason for this being we know "car problems" suddenly happened to the people that used to live here and also had troubles with them). And yes, it's that very reason our landlords are interested in taking action too; they cause problems for everyone who's lived here.

Maybe it was their dealers that got moved out? They're suffering really bad withdrawal as they can't score anymore and they're just taking it out on you. You should be more understanding and to be honest, paying for their drugs counselling. What kind of a neighbour are you?

In all seriousness, i'm very glad we get on with our neighbours, although they sometimes mock me for keeping my car nice and clean!! 'You'll wash the paint off that' being a favourite.

Daft thing is, our other neighbours enjoy a J now and then in the back yard. Couldn't get on with them better, lovely people. Perhaps they need to pass it round a bit and spread some calm to the uptight gits.
