another cs 1.3 question...

predictably from me :)
well i finally got the patch,when i installed it checked that my mic was working and all is ok.however when i get into the game everyone has a little speaker symbol next to 'em 'cept me.i looked in the config and assigned a key to "use voice communication but nowt works,and still no symbol.could one of you super clever types fill me in on why this is?
maybe it's a bit late,maybe im a bit tired , or maybe i'm just a div :)
so how to activate it?
and how to mute it?

It asks u wether u want to setup voice comms during 1108 or 1003 install.

If you didnt do it then, do to your start menu find cs or hl and it should have a voice setup icon to click on.

hmm yeah i done that when i speak into the mic it registers n eveything but in game nowt which is wierd.btw u right there r a lot of threads soz

I think noone has a speaker next to their own name.

Someone asked me about it on a server last night, but on my scoreboard they did have a speaker by their name.

Just try pressing your voicerecord key, you should see a little symbol in the bottom right of your screen appear.

Also I think the cvars are

sv_voiceenable
and voice_enable
check these are at 1 (you can look in your config.cfg file if these dont work)

Does any one know of a cvar to make the speech louder in relation to the other sounds effects?

You BASTIDS better not take the piss out of me for this one.

Got the download installed last night and went to set up the mic "thingy".

No matter what I did the fking thing wuold not work.

Had the headphones in and out of every orifice (in the pc) and nowt worked.

Ran the system test for the microphone set up (lo and behold it said everything was worknig fine) - still nothing registering from the mike.

Of course, with my *cough* superior *cough* intelligence:rolleyes: , i KNEW the firking system was lying through its teeth - of course there was something wrong with it.

Well, after about 45 minutes of frustrated trying, where some choice expletives were being used :upyours:, a little thought crept into my mind.

On my headphones, there is a switch which turns on/off the microphone. Hey, guess what, it was set to mute.:rolleyes:

would you believe that when I flicked the switch, everything worked.:D

Anyway - throd - does your headphones have a mute button for the mike ?

its +voicerecord to bind a key to talking.

Must hold this key down to talk.

It was late and drunk when I rwplied last night, u can of course not see a mic by your own name, just near other players.

This voice thingy has been over hyped! Basically it is crap! The voices are extremly muffled and unclear at this stage. You would have thought valve would have known this and done something about that before the lanuch. Or maybe a marketing stategy. Release 1.3 with minor defaults then release patches later, making us think that they are constantly trying to improve the game for us.

I bet you they have loads of patches already made up ready to release when they feel the time is right. Nice strategy. Yes i did a marketing degree. :rolleyes:


Anyway, i do like the way you can hear opponet radio messages. Hahah..... you hear the shouts of 'go go go' from a couple of campers.... so you just wait for them to come out of their hiding and finish them off. Might have to bind some typed radio messages now.

The thing about the headshots is so true. You got blown up heads all over the place. The game does feel a lot smoother imo -not sure about all this voice stuff though.

As for the cheat thing lol - first game on 1.3 i get accused of cheating within 5 mins. Oh well!

Teh voices are extremely clear, and very recognisable.

If you are gettgint ehm unclear u ahvea shite soundcard or a connection issue.

I ahve talked to epople I knwo in real life on cs comms its perfect.

Much betetr than roger wilco or battlecom, only problem is dead people cane talk to the living.

Well you are the first person to have said that!! I have never really had probs with my connection and have a soundblaster live 5.1 sound card.

Could the server effect the quality in any way as i have only played on jolt so far on 1.3?

I think i will turn them off period. As i keep hearing high pitched voices shouting 'go go go' and 'yeah baby' every time i kill someone :p

btw muting?hows that done?

Don't ask how many times I've done this with my speakers, re-installed drivers had them to pieces all b'cos of the bloody mute button!
