another adsl question

now i know i already siad that i had to give up my isdn for the ol adsl, but something has been bothering me!

Does anyone know how the IP addresses will be handled with the system? Now this could cause serious problems if it's handled wrong - i.e. if you all share all one common ip address.

Although I don't know if one single address will be inherently possible (prolly is), but it would be terrible to use like that.

I.e. Irc banning would affect 49 other peeps, secure transactions wouldnt really be that secure etc.

Maybe im wrong, maybe not ;o)

Could anyone enlighten me on the situation - ive looked around, but prolly missed where it was mentioned, but as im in the middle of my first year exams, i guess i can be excused ;o)

My understanding is that they'll now be dynamic, so the ip will change.

The word on CIX is that they'll be fixed for a month at a time, then changed.

I think they are DHCP assigned (ie your system polls the router to find out the IP address), although i'm not sure if the numbers are changed with every connect (as with most dialup ISPs, inc BW) or after a certain amount of time.

Only one system (well, unless the end user is using IP masquading, but anyone who doesn't know what this is won't be using it) can use an IP at any one time though.
