I pay £9.99 a month for spotify to listen to my stuff.

Also most of the music i listen to i usually band a t-shirt of the band or something like that, so i'm not totally dishonest tbf.

All these numbers mean nothing anyway cause its not like they lost out o a billion downloads worth of revenue .. i bet most of those who dl'd wouldnt have gone to a shop to buy it anyway

even if it was the only way they could get hold of it

More than a billion songs downloaded illegally in 2010 record industry claim - Telegraph

ive always wondered, how do they know how many songs are downloaded illegaly?

the figure is meaningless by itself.

teh wikipedia said:
* 500,000 units: Gold album
* 1,000,000 units: Platinum album
* 2,000,000 or more units: Multi-Platinum album
* 10,000,000 units: Diamond album

on the RIAA's site, there are about 180 albums from 2010 that are at least gold. that's just albums, not singles, DVD's or anything else. also, at least gold, where there are also things like 6xplat on there.
with an average of 12 tracks per album, that is 1080000000 tracks *bought* this year which are *new* and at the very least gone gold, otherwise it's more. counting albums that don't make gold, it's even more. counting singles and other sales, it's even more. counting sales of albums that came out before 2010 it's even more! given that most other albums are over 3 years old, they will already have earned back the initial investments, made their projected profits, and are now raking in...not a lot.
so, considering the above, I would say the number quoted by the tellerygraphs is worth about the same as a pint glass of extremely runny shit tbh :(

What happens when you stop subbing to Spotify? You lose all your music?

Nope.

You don't lose any music, infact you don't even have to sub, just inbetween x amount of tracks you get an advert if you use the free version.

With the paid version you can use offline playlists, sync all the tunes to your iphone and a bunch of other stuff.

I think they just ask 100 poor college students how much music theyve downloaded in the last week, then mutiply that by how many people have the internet and BINGO..

= everyones file sharing, your all criminals, pay the music/movie industries taxes.

just a joke really, so much resistance for so long when its been shown that different business models are required for a digital age, they just dont want to change because it will kill them in particular in their "middle man" role.
