Since the novelty of BF wore off I've been getting more and more annoyed by little things. There's nothing that you haven't heard here before but I haven't had a good moan for ages. Particular annoyances are:
Artillery units - these are like a griefers dream. On Kharkov I usually jump in the jeep and race to the middle flag to get an artillery piece. Well I did this and a team mate spawns at the middle flag I had just capped, and by way of saying thankyou he hijacks my carefully lined up katyusha and proceeds to drive towards to front line with me swearing my head off in the gunners seat.
He finally takes the hint and gets out, so I turn the thing around and start heading back towards the hill when he gets in gunners seat and waits for me to line him up. So I sent the bastard rolling over the cliff, which unfortunately he survived and started racking up kills I should have got.
Plane campers Seriously, whenever I see 2 or more people at an airfield waiting for a plane I despair at the future of humanity. You have a 24 player server, with 3 people on each side camping planes, so that means an 18 player server. Wow, how about we just add some sort of spectator/waiting for plane mode so they aren't adding to my lag when I'm trying to take the enemy flags by myself.
Frame lag - Ok my computer isn't top of the line anymore but you would expect 1.3ghz athlon and Ge4 Ti4400 to be able to cope with big battles on a 50 player server. Well it can't. And I bet that when you've got a few boats, a few planes, and a few infantry men in any one area even the fastest PC is gonna be left curled up in the corner crying.
I've seen too many games ruined by poor frame rate during large battles. Sure, if you want to drive around El Alamein for 30 minutes with the sand for company and the occasional fleeting shot at planes then it wouldn't be too bad. But on maps like Midway there are lots of ships and planes for a reason - unfortunately sticking together as a fleet is out of the question as the frame lag makes accurate firing difficult and after a while just plain annoying.
Bugs - The more I play the more bugs I find. Uncappable flags, unable to change weapons, katyusha/bomber 2nd salvo bug, not to mention a list of tweaks as long as my arm that would make the game more playable. I swear that once I had to reload my bazooka 4 times before it actually stayed loaded after I switched to pistol and back. And maybe someone can clear this up for me, but as a sniper why is that you have 1 shot left, you reload, you have 0 shots left, but you can't fire? Is he clearing the case out of the gun or something but it definately looks to me that he is reloading.
Perhaps I'm just expecting too much from the game. When I first played the demo I was laughing hysterically every time I crashed my jeep or ran over a team mate. But now I just seem to get worked up instead of having fun. Instead of "F'kin hell that was a great shot with the bazooka" it's "***** ******* ****** such a lucky ******* prolly usin a ****** aimbot and map hacks the ****** aiiieeeeeeeeeeee."
I'm becoming quite adept at filling even a 20 second respawn wait with a pure stream of profanity - maybe I could get a job at a garage.
Sounds - Why oh why does the BAR sound a couple of knitting needles being clicked together. It's meant to be a friggin support weapon yet it goes "Click click clickety" like my gran making me a new sweater. Everything about infantry combat just doesn't feel solid. If only they could put the vehicles from BF into DoD and I'd be in heaven.
Anyway that's my rant for the week.
