Girlfriend dragged me to it last night. I have a question; how does Dan Brown manage to get paid for this shit?

When I read the books I couldn't understand what everyone thought was so great about them. I can't even remember what happened in them now. I imagine the films are similar so I've been avoiding them.

I completely agree. also: *cough*.

I'd normally, and with a certain degree of cynicism, say that the films of DB books are better than the books themselves...but in the case of A&D I'd say they're equally grim.

Da Vinci code book and film were fricking terrible. Nothing could make me go and see this film.

I read the book as it was a present it was ok till the end then it got all preachy and I just went downhill. The film does not interest me at all.

I read it a couple of years ago. I honestly can't remember have of the plot line now, but I do remember thinking it was quite boring with a slightly silly plot. I can't say the film appeals, but then I have never seen the Da Vinci code film, because I felt pretty much the same about that book.

I've read the book a few times, wasn't a huge fan of the film. (Saw it last night)

I did not mind the film!

Though at the end I thought McGregor would have sacrificed him self like Jesus. I actualyl thought that was the whole point in that little bit, but seemed it wasnt :/

We should cull everyone that reads or watches Dan Brown. Think how great the world would be.

It sells because generally speaking people are simple and do what the marketing people tell them to do.

The Da Vinci code book was ok the film version of it was shit too though. Won't even bother watching this when its on TV I imagine, started to read the book and thought it was guff.

Was visiting my rents and watched it with them (well some of it anyway). Films always massacre the book version. I might have been holding out for some kind of double negative thing.

No intention of ever seeing this. I hated Da Vinci Code, the only fun was seeing Ian McKellen stealing every scene he was in.

its not to bad if you just treat it as a mystery thiller rather than all the religious mumbo jumbo

Not really, because it doesn't stand up as a very good thriller. There are all kinds of logical flaws in it. I hadn't read the book but worked out who the bad guy was pretty quickly, and just like in the Da Vinci Code the Langdon character either already knows the answers and we're treated to a mildly diverting travelogue of Roman churches, or the answers are gifted to him on a plate.

Plus,
Ewan Macgregor's "plot" relied on both Tom Hanks getting all the the clues just too late all the way along and impeccable timing to both a. "discover" the device, and b. make sure it happened in a specific five minute window so he could justifiably play the "hero". Never mind the fact that he would have no idea of the blast radius of a never-seen-before antimatter explosion. TBH, the religous mumbo jumbo was the least ridiculous part of the whole story.

I haven't seen the film, but as it's a hollywood "thriller" it's going to be one of the main actors, which means as Hanks is the hero, it's bound to be MacGregor as the bad guy.

Love the books purely on the strength of a good couple of fingers up to the religious side of life (but not too badly in the last book).

The films weren't terrible IMO - the second film however was so far away from the book it might as well have had a different name. Half the characters were missing, the plot entirely changed, things happening in entirely the wrong order. I know it's gotta be changed for cinema etc but imo it was too much.

I like it purely as I enjoy the mechanics and workings of life and things that happen as a subsequence. It appeals to me as an agnostic, and more so as an engineer with an interest in science and technology.

Plus, Tom Hanks is a stonking actor who looks and acts far younger than he actually is.

Go on, flame ahead ;)

A bit like Edmond I thought it was ok for a few hours of entertainment. I really feel some of you take things too seriously.

The plot was a tad floored and in parts a little silly however I was sat on a sofa in an awesome cinema being entertained without having to make any effort :)
