hold on tho prefect - why should people have to go out of their way to avoid a harmful thing that has no justification except its nice to get pissed and harass people in the street, start fights, and so on

fixed
and i dont see people campaigning about that ?:p

I don't see personal liberty as an arguement, If someone asks me not to smoke in their presence, I won't, but I don't see that the government has the right to tell me where or when I can smoke.

qft

back when you could, i would ask someone in a pub if sitting at a table next to me if they minded me smoking, especially if they were eating

i didnt need a government legislation to tell me it might be unsuitable. its called having some common sense and manners

well mabs we have police to try and stop things like having fights in the street. In fact we already have many laws to stop such things. This is a case of people acting illegally and if/when caught will face some sort of punishment, just as a smoker (or the landlord, I suppose) will get fined if smoking in a pub or place of work.

and yet
there are warnings that say smoking causes lung disease, and secondary smoking kills ! and so forth
which is all bollocks, it contributes, not 100% guaranteed
so why are there no huge signs around the place and on booze that says "being near someone drinking alcohol WILL get you bottled or mugged", cos hey, if were putting bullshit on government warnings let go all out

no1 in their right mind is going to argue smoking -isnt- bad for you, but a little bit of balance and perspective instead of a biased witchhunt might garner more support for it

its got fuck all to do with the medicine of it, and lots to do with:
control through fear and misinformation
suppressing the minority
pandering to special interest groups
and what is percieved as socially acceptable****

and as was mentioned, you cant go around saying "ooh its soo bad for you, .. but dont everyone stop cos we like the cash flow ta". either be against it, or be in favour, or shut up. stop whining and milking it at the same time

can you honestly say that the UK government is going to do the same thing wiht alcohol when they have god knows how many bars in the HoParliment ?

****ps: its ALL about VOTES in the end, and keeping yourselves in POWER
(in case that passed you by :p)

You talk about personal liberty to smoke, I talk about personal liberty to not be exposed to easily avoidable risks.

I'd like you to point out, no matter how far fetched, story about someone getting lung cancer(or even a cold) from inhaling smoke on the street that was smoked by a stranger.

With the indoors ban to places, you have your choice you advocated for years and years.

Wasn't enough though was it?

I also said I had no idea if it WAS a risk at all, which was my entire point.

I agree with chilly and mabs somehow.

Both make valid points.

Since it means absolutely nothing, let's retract that "apologies" from my previous post and replace it with "f*ck you cocksucker", since that's the way the internet works *thumb up* Go jesus.
