i tried ao from retail start. it was horribly bugged and laggy. had some fun, but it didn't really fit my taste. i have a few mates that are playing it now and they say it's a world difference from when it went retail. i guess it's pretty cool if that's your thang.

dunno about euro sb, i highly doubt that they have scrapped it.

afaik there's only a pause in the beta progress. not 100% sure though.

would've sucked if they kill it ;/

AO becomes boring fast. Doing Missions all day long to lvl or find a group in the enormous world is hard.

The current European publisher of Shadowbane is bankrupt, so I expect a serious delay in the european release at the least.

Since I have just changed from Daoc to AO I would say that yeah, there are alot of good things in the game.. I too played it when it first came out, and man, was it ever buggy and unbalanced.

But amazingly enough Funcom did something most MMORG's dont do.. they balanced the classes without just running around with the nerf stick, beating everything to a pulp.

As far as I can see most (if not all) of the bugs have been fixed.

Personally Im more into SciFi then Fantasy. So Im probably biased but I really like the AO world.. its big and there are alot of "neat" stuff in it. (for example: I came running out in the middle of nowhere, and suddenly I see 3 HUGE Railcannons at a huge installation, firing away like there is no tomorrow.. a minor thing i know.. but just 1 of many)

Oh and did I mention that u can get flying vehicles.. that in itself makes the game work for me.. no more slowass trundling around..

And certain classes have things that only they have access to as well (special shops and traveling routes).. Crafting is a big thing as well, but unlike Daoc u cannot be lvl 2 and a mastercrafter (whether u like this or not, I leave up to u)..

However, the PvP seems a bit on the not so good side.. having not really tried it yet, I really cant say much about it.

AO's main problem is, as far as I see it, that it was bugged and unbalanced in the beginning, and before they got it "right", alot of the hardcore gamers moved on to other games, leaving very few powergamers.

To conclude: atm I enjoy it plenty.. I like lvling a new char, with new skills (which u also decide for urself.. u decide in what u want to spec in.. all of it.) U can get to lvl 200, but atm that is a looong way off for me. There are a ton of new stuff in the game since I last was there. Whether the game will continue to hold any interest for me.. well, only time will tell, wont it ;)

Hope this was useful, in some way..

Oh, and having Beta tested Shadowbane, all I can say is: IT BLOWS.

Its a shame it gets boring too quick (im assuming theres not substantial new content since I last played), because it does have its moments. At one point when I first started playing it, I was wandering around in a desert and my group came accross an oasis.. completely flooded with great big dinosaurs :) we took to hunting them and it was great fun.. at one point we bit off more than we could chew and had to scatter (loads of mobs chasing) I ended up split up from the rest of the group.. then an electrical storm hit. Was really atmospheric stuff

I only mention this to demonstrate that AO does indeed have big positives.

Hopefully its not so empty and bugridden now.

edit: and having read the above post I might just download it and use my free activation :) could be interesting

I tried it when it first released too, but i never made it out of the starter zone so can't tell u if it was good or not. All i can say is that back then it was horribly laggy (was on a modem not my cable con then tho) bugged and completely unplayable. On more than one occasion i died without even gettin a chance to do anythin. Glad to hear they fixed it, might go back and check it out.

Im currently considering AO also i even borrowed friends copy.... its very mission based and less buggy than it was on release loads of ppl in cities. The pvp is not as developed as doac but its getting there... and yes the characters seems more balanced than in daoc.....

If your looking for new game checkout horizons istaria.com

I played ao for about 2 weeks, also was a beta tester

firstly, beta was the biggest pile of shite ever, I wont even go in to it tbh.

Then retail, basicly 3 points sum it all up:

1)laggy as fuck
2)control interface is shite
3)90% of the time if you wern't having to dial up to a server you wouldn't even know it was multiplayer. (extreme lack of people)

1) Lag has been reduced dramatically.. only lag as u zone into areas with 30+ ppl.. and that is usually only untill u have loaded the area.

2) Show me an Interface u like, and I can find some1 that doesnt like it. Interfaces are like tits, somelike em', some dont.

3) I never have trouble finding ppl on the server.. but yes, it is a US server, and the main population is from the US, so it usually gets more populated around 20.00 CET. That dont bother me, when there isnt alot of ppl around ur level in the vicinity, there's always somethings that u need to have a look at.. be it your Implants, Spells, Armor, money or a skill boost from a higher lvl player ;) And having played both a Nanotech (wizzie), Agent(Ranger/assassin typ) and a Doc (Healer.. duuh ;)).. Ive never had trouble finding a grp at anytime in the day.

Even when I played it (before DAOC europe launched) the lag was getting better.

The interface isnt shite.. perfectly functional.

Getting groups wasnt any kind of problem.. plenty of folk about.

but of course, two weeks in that might have been true.

That pretty much summarises it.
You can level ludicrously fast once in a group but the game world is faaar too big for the playing population. Shame really, cos for the first week or so it's brilliant. Sadly...

Shadowbane seem quite cool really, the graphics suck, but it seems to be everything camlann could have been.

You can build entire cities and someone else can siege them and level em to the ground. The possibilities are huge.

But then again the graphics suck :D

I've been a huge anti-shadowbane follower, but since a couple of weeks back I've read up more on it and not only looked at screens of the gfx. It seems to kick major ass and I got so bummed when I heard Swing! the euro company that had the contract with Ubi was bankrupt. This means there will probably be a Euro release somewhere in the future but finding a new company and solving all the legal issues will take forever i guess :/ . Because of the contract with Swing! euro players are not allowed on the US servers (legal bs). This means that to be able to play US Shadowbane you need to live in the US. Buying the US copy of the game will not let you register on their website, and even if you succesfully get a registrered account they have IP checks and will ban you if your IP is not one from the USA.

All you can do is /cry and do something else until they get their scrap together and get a new company in EU to run it. Or if they (hopefully) get rid of the NON-US policy now when Swing! is out of the deal (broke their contract etc by not being able to give the services they probably signed in the contract).

DAoC is not an option anymore for me, I almost throw up from boredom just loading the game. Hopefully I'll find ways to survive until there is another good mmorpg release, or until I get a chance to play Shadowbane.

Well I don't live in the US, I didn't put in any false details for my beta test application and I have been beta testing Shadowbane.

They have suspended the Euro only beta test on the Euro servers (as of Feb 12th) but I presume they have decided to open up the US one to people outside of Canada and the States.

As for the game itself, as I've mentioned before, the customisation aspect of your char (ie the feats, background, skills etc) that you can choose at creation level are quite nice and give rise to a greater diversity of profession types.
However, the customisation in terms of appearance is even less than DAoC and the graphics really do blow eggs.

If you can imagine a combo of Ultima (pre 3D) ie a viewpoint from above, with the early adventure games like Baldur's Gate, that's the sort of level we're talking.

The interface is horrendous (but as has been pointed out that's a cosmetic thing only) and the gameplay is bizarre (you move like in Diablo by pointing the mouse on the floor and clicking).

Line of sight for mobs to kill them is a bit wierd, sometimes it seems to work, other times it doesn't, but again, this is beta only. It is very laggy and the interface certainly doesn't help you with how to do anything.

However, in six months time, I reckon this will be a great game to play if your the fan of old style hack and slack games, ie everything that moves is killable.
There are plenty of big clans going already, the seige city thing is a genuine option but I personally haven't been involved in that.

I'd give it 6 out of 10 at the mo with potential for it to be an 8 or 9 out of 10 in a few months.

AO heh dont go there fella, trust me.

I have a lvl90 engineer there, and no other class have tasted the nerfbat as much as engineer there.

boring game, boring maps.. all desert landscape.
the game has the suckiest huntspots.

and the missions is the way to make money or get EQ and they are endlessly boring.
zzzzzz

daoc is way way more fun IMO.
Shadowbane which i have beta acct on is showing much potential imo.
PVP to the bone, whenre u can loot/steal your victim.
and thousands of character combinations. ( well atleast hundreds )
Player politics, makes griefing hard.
but PKing is of a basis of the game and is expected.

I can aim u to a very good page with screenies and info.

one page is:

sb.catacombs.com - yes a charbuilder for shadowbane.
www.k2.org - Ebonlores homepage with a forum with lots of screenshots and info about various things.
www.shadowbane.com - the us site, btw dont preorder til it is confirmed that EU players can register with creditcard.
www.shadowbane.de - Swings, euro shadowbane´s homepage, swing is bancrupt, news of their situation should come in a couple of weeks.

Anarchy online

I have played a lot of games.

This

Game

Just

SUCK!

It did when i tried it for 4 months, it did when i returned first, and it did when i returned twice.

What is fun in the game is:
You can brag about your stuff (its A LOT of cool stuff to brag about, like flying things driving about 11times as fast as a horse would on speed 5 + sprint + sos, and a picture of a undressed girl on the outside of the plane)
You can overequip a lot.

However....
What you do in the game is:
Lag
Missions.
Explore (everquest is a lot more exiting to explore, daoc just suck at this :p NERF copy paste dungons and trees for 50 levels :p)
Get higher quality level of your weapon and armor, you get the same name on your armor from 5-200!! (you have recived a quality level 15 stigma rifle! weee, that will rock on my 10 agent...i have gotten a level 146 stigma rifle, wee that will rock on my 100 agent! (although my level 64 agent still can wear a 146 stigma self buffed (yes))
well, period.

Lots of silly spells and such here, but hunting nor pvp (pvp suck here, at least did when i tried last), is much of a skill this way. If a trader still can beat a 20 levels above martial artist, with the martial artist ending up with 5 in martial arts and the trader with 1000, then it still does :p. Hunting basicly was: give damage and heal, nothing like daoc at all. No aggro attacks, no styles, you press attack button and eventually a burst or kick :p

Play daoc or wait for everquest two, world of warcraft or the like, ditch both shadowbane and AO totaly and do yourself a favor .D

A0 Sucks
Played the free week and it was shite!
Maybe after months of patching it would have got better, then again I dont think patchs, can help a game, that bad.
