An RvR idea - Flag tagging

Sitting bored at work, I was thinking of something that would make RvR more interesting and maybe make you visit places you wouldn't naturally go to.

It would give you something to do at night or if it was quiet.

Something similar has been mentioned before, but here we go:

I reckon every realm should have 10 flags in each of its 4 frontier zones. These flags can be tagged by any realm and give bonuses something like this:
These are cumulative:
40 flags and below - no change
40-60 Flags - Crafters/Alchemist/SC Speed x20%
60-80 - Crafters/Alch/SC Speed x50%
80-100 - RP's x1.5, Money x1.5, All XP x1.5
100-120 - RP's x2, Money x2, All XP x2

Every flag that is tagged gives the person 1k RP and 200g, divided if a group does it between its members.
Every flag that is tagged can't be changed for 10 minutes.
Flags can be tagged from stealth.

I just think it would be hilarious watching people running around trying to "tag the flags".

Capture the Flag BG would be fun, But thats kinda like wow.. Where you need so many people etc to go into bg at once and then match begins etc

On topic, interesting idea but i would rather prefer to have improvements in siege warfare than more things added to the game, imho.

I work on a computer 2nd/3rd line support team which is /yawn. I.T. is boring, but pays just about good enough to get by.

I think it would be fun though, you'd get little fights around the flags, you'd get groups running around trying to tag all the flags, people could tell where the groups are by the flags changing, and realms would get mostly crafting bonuses which is good for the realm.

People would also venture to places they don't usually go to tag the flags, I think it would be interesting. And when the fights dry up at night, people could run around tagging the flags, then the small amount of fights over night would actually be worth a bit of RP. Then in the morning, some skalds or speed classes could zoom around getting flags and the crafters could churn out some armour etc etc.

Of course siege warfare should be improved at the same time, but I'm trying to think of things to make the game more fun, things to do. I'm just thinking that I need another 3.2 million RP to get to RR11, and you know what? the thought of die->buff->drop off/bridge/boat->die->loop endlessly is really unappealing at the moment :>

Maybe we should be able to make ropes and climb up keeps and towers wherever we want.
Maybe make ladders and do the same.
I would like to see towers or keeps actually burning a little in front of you. If they are on fire on the map, then they should have smoke coming out of the top when you arrive there.
I want to see meleers get some defence against casters.

well i like the idea but as said, why put this in daoc? it just completely does not fit with anything resembling the original idea- or what it evolved into. infact we have a similar system but more in theme - towers. getting towers here and there offers bonuses + creates action at specific spots.

the problem here is that its too hard to take such towers, they are all level 10. at the start of NF i enjoyed taking a tower in the mornings with my shade and create good action for the rest of the morning + afternoon around there. but eventually there were so many guilds, all towers were always claimed and L10. QQ.

the core of what you really want is a reason for people to move around from obvious campspots, and create action for smaller grps of players. completely agree with this thought, disagree with a capture the flag style idea.

imo they should have designed NF with one central portal keep where everyone can port to, and various other keeps where you cannot port to. these keeps should offer plenty of reason to be visited, and offer a constant flow of people going there through the days, weeks and months after release. think of special things that can only be bought there, 'forcing' people to walk there occasionally; crafting bonuses; certain quests; maybe a market from a "fourth realm" with unique items that are accessible to all realms; free XP by idling or logging in the keep (think x % / x amount of time, with a limit) anything.

anything to break the current port > go bridge > camp > get bored > take boat to enemy bridge > camp > die/get bored > log. there currently is fuck all reason to roam around anywhere beyond the obvious areas, unless on purpose designated for certain communities (1v1, 8v8)

just give people reasons to roam :(

What about roaming purple mobs who drop unique stuff? Random spawn points in the Frontier. Or better yet, Agramon.

Nothing brings the roamer out in you more than nerdy PvE-items.

Well, maybe if they made naked girls spawn.

It's a fair idea but it'd be very open to abuse. Albion would have most of them throughout the evening then as night drew in, bards/mincers/skalds would be free to just sprint around tagging them all drawing in massive realm point bonuses. 120 flags, 120k :eek: Wouldn't take more then an hour or 2 to run around them all with mach 6.

Ooh and 200goldx 120 :) 24 easy plat each night :D

He had posted some time before agramon was even announced that Mythic should add an 'island rising in the north sea resembling the frontiers of old' and look what happened. :)

I was one of the people that emailed Mythic about the Hibs docks that were on the island should be moved across the river to increase chances to kill people and fights, and that happened.

This was the latest email that I sent them, lets see if any of these get implemented!:

Hi there.
The game seems very good at the moment, but I was wondering if any of these ideas may ever be implemented:
RvR:
Grapple - Can there be an immunity to this, as a soloer, being chain grappled by a duo and being able to do nothing whilst being killed is no fun.

ML9 Pets - Could these be toned down in RvR, 1 minute is plenty of time for the pets to kill a small army. In PvE they should stay the same.

RP's - Could there be some kind of travelling bonus by leaving your lands. Say in an enemy realm, you get 1.5-2x more RP for bothering to leave your lands and go and find enemy to kill. This will encourage people to stop camping their own Bled/DC/Beno.

SB Poisons - Could we have some sort of coloured icon or different coloured text to indicate that a certain poison is on a weapon. It's getting tedious having to shift+i after every fight to see what of my 11 weapons have poisons on them.

Vanish - Could this be fixed so that all aggro is lost after using it, and that no spells or arrows pop you out after you have used it. The most frustrating part is hitting a Sorc+Pet with Mezz poison, the pet is mezzed, the fight with the Moc3+LT is not going well, you vanish, and either you get popped by the next spell = free RP OR the Mezz wears off and the pet finds you through your stealth, and it is usually ML9 pet = instadead. It's not much fun fighting all these i-win buttons sorcs have.

/assist - I'm thinking the game would be better without /assist. Let people target do some work :>

DI Bots - These should only be able to be used in RvR in groups of 3 or more and they should only work with Line of Sight. This would stop solo ML9 petting sorcs roaming or people camping towers easy RP because they are literally unkillable without a small army.

LT+MOC3 - it should be toned down.

Buffshears - These should be only temporary. People actually avoid fighting classes with buffshears because they have to go suicide/rebuff after a fight where you are buffsheared. It's not good for the shearer or the enemy. It should last maybe 1 minute like a debuff.

Boats - these take too long to get to enemy shores. Time is RP! :> Could they be speeded up a bit?

Bodyguard - When you hit someone that is being bodyguarded, I think the bodyguard should take most of the damage. Otherwise where does your damage go?

Waterbobbing - there should be a small delay between going to the top of water and going into water. Maybe 1-2 seconds. I only say this because the other day I had a fight with a heretic that waterbobbed so that I got 23 out of view messages when fighting him.

SoI Sorc RR5 - Could assassins have an equivalent RA or maybe RR5 ability, with 90% Caster damage immunity for 20 seconds. Casters have it too easy in this game, there need to be some payback!

Agramon - People don't seem to use this as it is too large / too laggy / has too many polygons? Is there any way that it could be made simpler / smaller? Or even have a dynamic environment that gets smaller as less people are logged on, and gets larger as more people are logged on? Agramon at the moment seems like a waste. Please make it a lot smaller, and maybe put a keep in the middle that gives some Crafting bonus or XP bonus, some reason for people to go there.

Lookout Tagging - I think there should be many small lookout towers in all the RvR Zones that you can climb up and "tag". With say 10 in each zone, that is 40 in each realm. With every Tag you could get some RP (maybe 1k RP) and a bit of gold (100-200g), and have different bonuses for owning different amounts of lookout towers, like under 40 - no bonus.
40-60 Crafting/SC/Alch + 50% speed
60-80 Crafting/SC/Alch + 100% speed
80-100 RPx1.5, Gold x1.5, All XPx1.5
100-120 RPx2, Gold x2, All XPx2
120-140 RPx2.5, Gold x2.5, All XPx2.5
The towers could only be tagged every 10 minutes and be scattered around the zones. People would visit zones they don't usually and small fights would happen around certain towers. Some thing to do in the frontiers that breaks up the usual routine.

And last but not least,
There should be a public hanging/cage area in each capital city where people that have been banned from the game have their characters. You can buy rotten eggs/vegetables for 1 copper each and throw them at the bad people and get 1RP per hit :> The people that have been banned should also have their last name changed to BannedThruRadaring, BannedThruMacroCrafting, BannedThruReasonHere. It would be good to show people that people are being banned, and a visual reminder not to break the rules! :>

I must say u really try hard Illu m8. I have given up theese things along time ago, (yeah i know i have ended in the mix with all the others that think mystic shits on em, and its highly understandable. So its nice to see some actually bother.:)
