It's quite interesting you say that, because the IPCC report doesn't really actually prove anything, it doesn't have the "cold hard" facts you mention, it goes by general assumptions as to how CO2 affects global temperature and models it from there, in fact there is little proof that human contributions to CO2 are affecting the planet as it is claimed.

The claims you make are outlandish, and, to be honest, diverge from rational debate, the IPCC report offers many scenarios, some are quite mild and ineffective, some are a bit doom laden, but its speculation, not proof.

Most fall into the category analogous to the man in 1901 London worried he'd be up to his knees in horse poo if the rate of horse transport continues. The report makes assumptions on this level, it ignores technological change, it assumes growth will continue on the same level for 100 years.

Gore's "proof" was correlation, which is not causation, which is not proof, and very few credible scientists would agree with his claims. Even Greenpeace and WWF move away from speculation that hurricane activity and other similar weather events are definitively affected by global warming, and even less so for the human element.

All the stuff you mention, all the stuff about polar bears and ice caps, there is no proof that the human element of global warming is causing this, and if it was, could we make a difference anyway ?

The Kyoto treaty was a sham, a proposal to spend trillions of dollars putting off the inevitable for around 6 years, yes, that's right, it would just put off, we can't reverse anything. All the things you mention can be challenged by today's technology, it would be far better to advance the world to US levels of technology so they can afford the solutions. One years worth of Kyoto spendings gets us clean water for every man, woman and child in the entire world, so perhaps it is better to ignore the supposed "cause", if you were concerned with "poor people" that is.

If I were Gore, and I was thinking of making a follow up film, I'd do it in Chinese and Urdu, because he's preaching to the choir here.

Yep - thats why global warming worries me.

In science you come up with a theory to explain (and sometimes predict) measurable effects - the theory is published and subjected to peer scrutiny - if its good then later experiments will be in accord with the theory and eventually the theory may be accepted until a better one comes along.

The Key is that other scientists are able to question a theory.

In global warming theory everything is taken as proof - detractors are vilified (people who have doubts about global warming have been compared to holocaust deniers!!!) - funds are directed at experiments that reinforce the theory while opposing ideas struggle for funds.

Thats not science - global warming has become a modern day religion and religion and science are not compatible.

I was always under the impression that in science you drew your conclusions from the data, not start with a conclusion and work back. If I'd known that Astrophysics labs would have been a darn sight easier.

Precisely, their whole project has been set out to get information to fit the idea that global warming is man made, disregarding anything that suggests otherwise, they weren't setting out to discover the causes but prove what they think they already know.

If they took a more neutral standpoint i may be tempted to believe them....

Whilst Im sure there is some truth in global warming, it is simply being used as an excuse to tax us more. Governments need stuff like this to keep us in line. Once it was the Cold War, now its Global Warming. They fucking love it.

And while Im here, there will always be "poorer people", thats called capitalism I think. If we managed to educate half of Africa into not getting aids all the time and not shooting and starving each other they'd simply concrete over the continent anyway, the same as the South Americans are chopping down the rain forest, and for that matter the same as we are building millions of houses to house the non-native people who live here nowadays that we feel somehow obliged to help. And once they got educated enough to realise whats going on in Africa they'd just hop on a plane and come over here anyway, there's all sorts of good stuff going on here , who could blame them? And we'll just cheerfully destroy the last bit of our country for them, and then raise taxes to support someone ELSES wildlife.

Fucking priceless.
