AMD Mobo + HSF suggestions

I'm upgrading and want to know people's opinions on what AMD mobo to buy.

It's definitely going to be an AMD mobo so there's no debate there. I'm just not sure which one to get.

There's the latest KT400 offering from ASUS that I've been told is the best.

But I've also heard good things about the nForce2 mobo. I've seen an ABIT one that looks pretty good.

So any suggestions/opinions on which one I should get.

I'll prolly be getting some 2700 mem or 3200 and whatever the latest athlon is when I get around to buying it in a week or so.

So I also need recommendations on a HSF too!

I'm aiming for a total price of around 350 quid. But if it's REALLY worth it I can push to a TOTAL max of 400 quid.

Can I be greedy and turn this into a whole "what upgrade should I get?" thread?

I'm after an Athlon CPU, mobo and at least 512 megs memory, plus a HSF for the CPU (maybe for mem too). Oh and if there's still a budget for it, a western digital 40gig Caviar HDD for about 65 quid.

Actually the 2400+ XP processors are just making it out to the UK public, you've still got a bit of a wait for the 2600+.

If you got a little extra for a HSF I wouldnt use any other than the Alpha PAL8045 at £37.59 and a nice and quiet YSTECH 80mm fan .

My athon 2200 runs in high 30's to low 40's in a very warm room and I've never had it go above 46c

I've got one of those round here some where and it performs very well, although the SLK-800 performs as well but doesn't need fixing to the mobo.

OH GOD!! WHAT HAVE I DONE?!??!

I've just gone and spent 450 quid!

I bought an athlon 2400+, an ASUS K7N golden mobo, 512 megs of PC2700 corsair CAS2 memory, and a Coolermaster HS-002 HSF thingy.

I don't think I've ever spent that much in one go on computer stuff. It's always been in drips and drabs.

I got the mobo and CPU from komplett.co.uk and the memory and HSF from overclockers.co.uk

The mobo isn't even out yet. Unconfirmed stock in on the 15th. I could have all the bloody kit I need and no mobo to run it all on for a weeks or so. :/ I found the same mobo on dabs but they had "3-4 days" which means "we haven't a clue". But then I guess so does "unconfirmed". Ah well. heh.

So should finally have a dogs bollox PC. Should last me about 6 months.
