Ya save your pennies this kinda seems like a pointless upgrade until they officially goto 166 bus.

Prices of the Intel processors should get pressed down since the 2.8ghz P4 sin't that far away ;)

sorry...intel pressing prices? aye, they'll chop in the utter shite *cough* I mean low end cpu sector. anything half decent will still be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overpriced :/

Yes they will still be expensive but overall prices should drop by a fairly good amount.

heh it all comes down to how one defines a 'decent' intel cpu I guess.

I'd be using my XP 2200 at 166 mhz bus right now, if it wasnt for the fact the bloody board only goes to a 4x devide. Its utterly stupid that the board offers to support up to 200 or 250 mhz fsb, but only has a devide of 4!

Like im going to be able to run any pci devices at 41.5 and upwards mhz, normal is thirty bloody three!

Is there any chance of offering a 5x devide in a future bios update?!

If I had a clue of the mobo/chipset, I might just be able to answer that.

Interesting but ive been using this register editors for ages on kt7 boards etc...

i only skimmied it admitidly but i couldnt see anything for changing the devide? Thats all i want to do here, is change the fsb/pci devide to 5 from 4. This is so i can run a 166 bus at 33 mhz pci and not have cards spaz out on me or my graphics card fail due to stupid speeds. A 2.5 devide for the agp would be needed at 166 as an 84 mhz agp port wouldnt tend to work too well :]

If this information IS on there, and ive missed it which is totally possible, just write another msg slagging me off under this one telling me where it is. I'll read the article and play around more when i get home, which is in about half an hour.

I didn't bother my lazy arse to read it in enough detail to tell you, but the second article mentions that his setup is running with a FSB higher than your own, so worth checking out. He mentions some mods involving soldering too, though that stuff is outside of what I am prepared to do for speed.

too right

im not soldering bloody pins

it mentions something about being able to change things from within windows and you keep going until it fucks and then you know what you can away with.

seeing has one of my pci cards has a bios i just go until it says "Chip did not initialise properly". It keels over at about 38mhz and at 37.5 it works but its v unstable.

I just clocked back to 144 x 12.5 right now, it makes 1800mhz which is what the chip is supposed to run at. Im just waiting on getting my copper cooler from maplin and then hopefully i can go a bit higher etc. Although saying that its v nice as it is :D

I wonder if they can actually put pci devides into the bios as just a software coded option, like its not a hardware thing. I'd be dead keen on seeing a 5x devide so i could run at 166mhz. Would be great, always bloody something holding me back though.
