Yodel.....formally home delivery network, avoid like the fucking plague. They left something out in a "safe place" as I was not in when they tried to deliver it, however this "safe place" was a fucking PUBLIC PLACE and 75 odd quid of uni course books have been nicked.

I did some checking online and they have a terrible reptutation for this sort of thing hence the name change to Yodel from home delivery network in an attempt to sidestep their reputation. When I rang them they said if they could not ascertain what happened to my package that Amazon would replace it, if that has to happen I bloody hope Amazon charges Yodel for the lost items!

I have found them quite good when delivering my items.
Even having to return items was hassle free and free.

They tried to deliver a flat pack king size bed to my house a couple of months ago. The driver managed to get it all the way up my 20 meter path to my front door. He seemed quite pissed off with me that I didn't want it. Told him to do one in the end, would have helped him get it back to his van otherwise...

As for deliveries that should be for me, they just leave them outside my front door all day. Luckily my door is a long way from the road and its a quiet village. Wouldn't like to guess how long the parcel would stay there living in some grotty town/city.

Forget the delivery company Jeros. Amazon have not delivered what you ordered. You therefore contact them, say nothing has arrived, and insist they fulfil their part of the contract.

i find most of these companies, its shit all to do with head office, and everything to do with whether or not your driver is a jobsworth cunt, or someone who will go the extra distance.
had a UPS this morning, was sat in front room, went "oh the UPS van is outside blocking the road". nothing
card found on mat. presume he rang the doorbell that doesnt work, didnt try the large metal door knocker though

conversely had a driver (cant remember who) come back at the end of the day, as he was in the area picking his son up from school, rather than have the faff of a delivery on another day.. go figure

I've never had any problems with HDN, frankly. Had them deliver several things to me over the years.

I seem to remember reading they were one of the most complained-about companies in the UK after most of the banks and Talk Talk.

It all comes down to who you get on the day tbfh.

Personally Yodel/HDN in my area have been fine but always had a shit reputation.

For me it's always City Link that are just god awful.

On the plus side, on the one time in, it must be over 200 times, I've used amazon that I had a problem with a delivery, they couldn't have been more helpful to put it right.

HDN/Yodel are terrible in North Bristol. I recently had a run in with them over my Virgin Wine delivery. Apparently twice I refused delivery of it. On the 3rd time they actually showed up with it. I quizzed the driver about it, and funnily enough "It wasnt me driving the other times" was the response. Funny that..... Useless ***s.

Dont have a problem with any other delivery company where I live though.

Citylink are by far the worst , thank god ebuyer stopped using them.

The last 3 parcels citylink were supposed to deliver i ended up picking them up from the depot , 1st time was "No answer when ringing the bell so we couldnt get access to your flat" ,at the time there were no flats on my estate nevermind in my street.

The 2nd time , they said its been delivered signed for Mr A xxx (which was me) which was pretty strange seems i was in harrogate that weekend and not at home , they mysteriously found this delivered and signed for parcel 3 days later and i had to go collect it.

The 3rd time i tried to get it delivered to work and gave them the full adress (which is in Sunderland) , they tried to deliver it to our head office in Hartlepool , probably lost the adress and looked up the company i worked for.

you had an important parcel coming - you should have been in/told them what to do with it, give it to a neighbour for example.

Why? They actually have a very explicit process. No answer, leave a card and take it back to depot. They are only supposed to leave it if you give them specific instructions where and who in the original order (and I'm not sure Amazon actually use that functionality). I've actually had the Irish franchise of Yodel in pitching to us recently, and they described exactly what's supposed to happen and banged on about the training all the drivers get. Its obviously working well...

Because...

If the driver is a self-employed driver, he will not get paid for that particular parcel, if he doesn't get rid of it (ie, if he takes it back to the depot, he has to take it the next day - knowing the person probably will not be in again - depending on where this person lives, it can be a huge waste of time/petrol. These people only get £1.50 maximum per parcel imagine if you're going out of your way, for them not to be in, waste of time & money. Also, its common courtesy to leave instructions, if you're planning to go out - leave a note on your door, - give it to number 26 across the road, cheers - doesn't take much, does it?

You wouldn't order grocerys from Tesco - and then not be in when they deliver them?

Can't see why this'd be any different, just seems that it's a company, and peoples lives here, it's not he companies reputation, it's the individuals within that companies reputation, and trust me, they do not give a fuck about your opinion, I've asked them.

End of the day, their bollocks wont be on the line, the company who used their service usually pay out, and everyone will keep using the cheapest option to maximize profits.

because if you order groceries from tesco, they say "will be there between 12 and 1" unlike couriers who say "between 8.30am and 6pm, if we can find your house"

Yodel tell me that a certain threshold of customer complaints from a particular location and the driver loses his franchise. As the guy presenting said "there are drivers queueing up for these franchises".

As others have said, parcel companies don't give (useful) time slots, and I'm fucked if I'd leave a note on my door to all and sundry telling them I'm out and for how long. Interestingly An Post (Irish equivalent of RM), have banned their postmen from leaving packages with neighbours; too many disputes.

Bottom line, as Tom says, never engage with the parcel company themselves if there's an issue like this; go back to Amazon.

Amazon have directed me to Yodel (as per my request) and Yodel claimed they would ring me in a few days to sort it out.

Guess what, no phone call forthcoming.

Gwadien I was rather busy at a funeral and was not expecting it that day (Amazon got the stock in before they thought they would and thus sent it early). But the point is it is their JOB to take it back to the depot and NOT to leave my package in a PUBLIC place! I really don't care what happens to the driver becasue of this, he or she was not doing their job and my property has gone missing as a result which Amazon will now have to replace.

I lose time, Amazon lose money and stock and the driver got caught breaking the rules, everyone loses due to the drivers laziness, the last thing the world needs is more jobsworths.

Apparently UPS are similar in the states in that they leave a lot of items in public places/etc.

Although you can exploit it by ordering something like a laptop, letting them leave it outside , wait till they fuck off and bring it inside, then tell amazon it got lost because they left it outside. /whistles.

i ordered an mp3 player from amazon once and the delivery man left it outside...in the rain... on a busy street in hull...

luckily i saw him leaving it there as i was nearly home (didnt realise what he was doing)

unfortunatly it didnt work but Amazon were very helpful in getting it replaced (i also got a voucher as i bitched about having paid for express delivery only to get a broken mp3 player with a promise of a new one "within 2 weeks")

Only have problem if Amazon decides to update to homedelivery, got that last winter when i was home with broken ankle. Ordered 12 omnibus books, saw they would all be delivered to my door, but none showed up instead i got notes from 5 different service points the post here uses, and had to hobble around to all 5 to pick up my packs, the last was the posts own service center so asked why the heck the packages where not delivered to my door, got the answer he was there two days ago and none where home, So told her i had been home the past week and hardly left my apartment due to the icy conditions on the paths and my broken ankle, all she said was well you where not at home when the delivery came. Then why the fuck did he have to drop them off at5 different service stations?

Service Stations.. not sure what you mean by that, - but Parcel Force can deliver to the local post office - but depending on the day... - for example, where I worked, one guy would only accept parcels on tuesdays and thursdays, and another another set of dates, was very strange.
