When I saw the first video released of the Ady Gil speedboat colliding with the Shonan Maru it struck me that the video footage didnt seem to go with the story the Sea Shepherd folks put out that the boat had been deliberately rammed whilst stationary.
Yet despite this incongruity theres practically no english speaking reporter who questioned this claim - it seems japanese whaler = evil - eco-terrorist = good and the facts are irrelevant
The Maru is a fair sized ship with a max speed of 12 knots and displacement of 491 tons, it is 38 years old.
The Ady Gil was a high tech catamaran speedboat - with a max speed of 45 knots and displacement of 13 tons not even 4 years old.
Clearly the speedboat is a hell of a lot faster and many times more maneuverable - is it really credible that the Maru could ram the Ady Gil?
Lets look at some vids:
YouTube- Japanese Whalers deliberately rammed and left Sea Shepherd Ship Ady Gil sinking
If you look closely you can see that the Ady Gil fires up its engines just before the impact placing it directly in harms way - it looks to me that the Jap ship would have gone straight past them if they had remained motionless.
YouTube- Ady Gil rammed by Shonan Maru No. 2, view from MV Bob Barker
If you look without bias you can clearly see the Ady Gil unwisely pushing in front of the Maru to form the collision.
So what was the Ady Gil up to?
This vid seem's to hold the key:
YouTube- Ady Gil Boat Shoots Green Beam At Whalers!!
You can see the Ady Gil cutting in front of the Maru and attempting to blind the helmsman with a laser earlier in the day.
The astounding thing is how truly one sided the coverage was - some of the worst bias in a news story I have seen in a long time.
