Question Amazing levels of bias

When I saw the first video released of the Ady Gil speedboat colliding with the Shonan Maru it struck me that the video footage didnt seem to go with the story the Sea Shepherd folks put out that the boat had been deliberately rammed whilst stationary.

Yet despite this incongruity theres practically no english speaking reporter who questioned this claim - it seems japanese whaler = evil - eco-terrorist = good and the facts are irrelevant :p

The Maru is a fair sized ship with a max speed of 12 knots and displacement of 491 tons, it is 38 years old.

The Ady Gil was a high tech catamaran speedboat - with a max speed of 45 knots and displacement of 13 tons not even 4 years old.

Clearly the speedboat is a hell of a lot faster and many times more maneuverable - is it really credible that the Maru could ram the Ady Gil?

Lets look at some vids:

YouTube- Japanese Whalers deliberately rammed and left Sea Shepherd Ship Ady Gil sinking

If you look closely you can see that the Ady Gil fires up its engines just before the impact placing it directly in harms way - it looks to me that the Jap ship would have gone straight past them if they had remained motionless.

YouTube- Ady Gil rammed by Shonan Maru No. 2, view from MV Bob Barker

If you look without bias you can clearly see the Ady Gil unwisely pushing in front of the Maru to form the collision.

So what was the Ady Gil up to?

This vid seem's to hold the key:

YouTube- Ady Gil Boat Shoots Green Beam At Whalers!!

You can see the Ady Gil cutting in front of the Maru and attempting to blind the helmsman with a laser earlier in the day.

The astounding thing is how truly one sided the coverage was - some of the worst bias in a news story I have seen in a long time.

The rules of the sea indicate that the Jap vessel had to pass to starboard, as the Ady Gill had right of way. That's what the Jap captain appeared to be doing, until he released that the Ady Gill wasn't moving. He then attempted to steer out of a collision.

Whichever way you look at it, pompous green lentilists fucking around with Jap whaler in freezing Antarctic waters = lose. I hope those smug self-serving twats are charged with piracy, because this video demonstrates just what a bunch of thrill-seeking ***** they really are:

YouTube- SSCS vessel Steve Irwin rams dangerously Japanese research ship Yushin Maru No3

Oh and fuck you dorphin and fuck u wrawe!

Also if you look at the second video I posted you can see the Jap ship trys to turn to avoid the collision when the Ady Gil veers in front of it but its just too big to turn fast - surely if they had been trying to hit it they would have turned towards it?

Edit - they could have smashed that boat to pieces if it hadnt been a glancing blow due to turning away.

The large black tube is probably a mortar.
They've been lobbing suphide grenades (stink bombs) on the deck of the jap ships in the past.

I feel so sorry for these "research" vessels.

I have an idea, why dont they come and do some "research" in US or UK waters and see what happens then.

They are not breaking the law though, idiotic animal rights groups are. The guys on the whaling boat are just earning a living, they don't deserve someone trying to blind them, or deliberately putting themselves in harm for some publicity. 2 wrongs do not equal a right.

And the ethics of whaling do not give the media the right to spin the story so badly.

Whaling isn't a good thing.

However I firmly believe that Eco-warriors are complete *****. Let's harm a person because they kill a fox. Let's threaten someone and their family because they work in a lab testing stuff on monkeys. Let's ram a boat because they kill whales because so many people want to eat them.

I agree - these people think their views are so superior to others that they have the right to ignore laws and enforce them directly.

Thinking like that is half way to becoming a dictator - listen to this podcast on the excesses of green extremists and their wish to overthrow democracy so they can enforce their view.

yes because RAMMING the ships in question is so fucking brilliant isnt it?

yes, whaling is wrong, but that doesent mean the crew on the maru can do whatever the hell they want to stop it.

isnt it the red laser thats harmful?

iirc the green one is atleast in comparison, rather weak.

It's irellivant what the colour is. You can make high power lasers of any colour (including IR or UV or even further out). Certain colours are cheaper to make, such as red, as you get "brighter" laser for less power.

Even if the Ady Gil was the stand on boat it doesn't mean it can purposeful place it self in a collision course with a Give way boat.

It's your choice if you take a job on a whale "research" vessel.
It's like the independent contractors on the death star.
They know what they are getting into.

If I went out and started stabbing puppies because my grandad did it and said it was for research would that be cool?

No it would be retarded and I'd be locked up.

Your saying its fine to individually target people carrying out lawful business that you dont approve of for illegal actions - I mean are you really saying that???

Down that path lies people murdering abortion clinic doctors etc. etc.

Surely the correct approach is to campaign against it legally - if people agree you'll win - if they dont your probably wrong.

Yeah but the law says they can do what they do, so breaking the law to stop them is not the way to go about it. In general, vigilante action is a net loss for society.

They might not have other job offers lined up. I know plenty of people that have taken jobs they didn't like because they couldn't get anything else. It's the law that's wrong and not the people trying to earn a living.

If there was any democracy involved in the current regulation of whaling then it would be banned - it isn't something that we can ban because it's not under any countries control - which is rather different than the abortion clinic doctors you mention.

There is no real law on the high seas beyond if we catch you with drugs our navy will fuck your shit up.

I agree aswell.... The whole fucking situation around whaling is a disaster. How would people let their voices to be heard if the our own politicians cant do anything and no real international organization have enough power or influence to do something about it?

I've got no comments about the episode, however..

..I would personally ram a ship up in their arses for killing whales.

Why? They're just cows of the sea.
I was given to understand that they're a fair bit more intelligent than that. That said, if intelligence is the measure of what we should and shouldn't kill - we really should all give up bacon.
