AM I THE ONLY ONE?????

Ok, since i got my new modem i had good pings and hardly any lag them on Monday 19th July in the UKTL Match I was playing in (DT vs BB) I had REALLY bad lag and high ping.

I thought it was my connection, BUT before i disconnected i went onto 3 other servers and i was fine.

I was told the Barrysworld ISP would be better so i joined it hoping i would get back to normal, it worked fine in every server id played in until it was time for the next UKTL Match against TCB, AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN!

WHY??? I have tried different ISp's and still gat bad lag and ping BUT ONLY IN THE UKTL MATCHES, it is fine in every other server ive palyed in, Wireplay, Barrysworld, Madasafish, Force 9.

Has any one else had this problem? Is it something to do with the MOD it has?
Or is it just me?

K, I was gonna keep me mouth shut, 'cos I assumed it was just my dodgy connection, but I've noticed a marked increase in time outs, drops and general lag since the UKTL mod was applied. I have no idea what this mod does.. (Poker?) but I doubt v.much that it is the root source of our problems on this one.

Has the actual hardware changed? Is the UKTL box also running something else? Is it on a slower connection ? I don't know.

Either way, I'm getting better pings off a 56k modem than single and dual channel ISDN, and even then I get constant timeouts.

And, yes, I've tried with various ISP's too.

The mod does nothing whatsoever that might affect gameplay or pings, it adds some admin features only (like setting team names from the menu, altering the score limit, etc).

No changes to the BW box, link to the net, or anything else suggested. The server is running below capacity, as is the net connection.

I had a serious problem of lag and the game completely locking up, but only during league matches. I would then need to reboot before I could play Tribes online again.

I was blaming it upon the use of Roger Wilco as that was the only thing different that was different from when I played on open servers. But I was also sat on BB's IRC channel during a match which I've done during QW matches for years and had no problem.

What was happening was the IRC client built into Tribes was logging onto the IRC channel everytime I started the game. If I was already logged onto IRC using a different program then within about 10 mins the game would lag and then lock up.

I hope this is your problem and helps a few people.

thanks for the info but i wasnt logged on to IRC during the matches, i always disconnect then start playing a game.

Thanks though. Well ill see what happens in my next match on tuesday as i will miss our last match in the UKTL.

Hope i dont have the same problem in the WPTl, i shouldn't have as i have been fine on all other servers.

I've mailed DBs on the subject cos i get abismal lag on both barrys servers and dialup. He said he was shocked to hear it cos he hasnt heard any lag reports for ages!
They aint changed anything so who knows....my latest theory is all these freebie internet access providers (tesco, dixons et al) are just overloading the backbone with garbage users busy dling pr0n etc.......

For some reason ive also got probs.
for the last 3 league matches 2 UKTL and 1 WPTL i have lost connection..on each match this is something that doesnt happen alot to me but it has just recently in league matches....

??? any ideas...

I'll watch the CPU utilisation tonight and see where its at. The only thing thats changed is the Mod.
