Alliances

Helllo all.

As a newcomer to Dark Age of Camelot, I have a few questions that I hope somebody can answer.

Alliances. How are these formed, and what are the terms of membership? Is there a maximum number of guilds that can join an Alliance? Are there Alliances that will accept guilds new to RvR, or smaller guilds?

Sorry for the number of questions :)

One guild will be the head of the alliance, and "control" the invites etc.

How you control the alliance in general, is up to you, you set the rules.

The guildmaster of one guild needs to get his character in front of the guildmaster of another guild.

He then types /gc ainvite

The other guildmaster should get a message box asking if they accept. If they don't, they can type /gc aaccept. (Note the 2 'a's, a lot of people get this wrong).

In your system window, you will see a message saying guild X has accepted an alliance with guild Y. There is often a delay before this appears.

The guild that issues the invitation then becomes the lead guild in the alliance, and only the guildmaster(s) of that guild can issue future alliance invitations and set the alliance motd.

Access to alliance channel is set by individual guilds and is entirely up to them, but the people that form the alliance can set guildelines for how it is used. Be careful with this one, alliance channel usage/misusage has crumbled alliances in the past. Nobody is ever happy with ac usage 100% of the time so it helps if everyone is tolerant of information that isn't directly for them.

There is a limitation of 20 guilds you can invite to ally with you, which is pitifully small. I've emalled Mythic and GOA many times about this but still have had no answer.

Alliances are one of the best things about the game imo, and make you feel part of something much bigger. Ask any guild that has left an alliance or is waiting to join one how much they miss it after they've got used to it. If you think guildchat is good because you get to chat to some friends, alliance lets you know that other things are happening around the realm and gives scope for you to be part of much bigger things.

Thanks for the very informative reply Roo!

I'm not in a Guild at the moment Case, but I'm thinking of strong-arming some girlfriends to play DAoC, and perhaps form our own Guild.

I was just worried that a rather inexperienced Guild would not be welcome in an Alliance, which would make RvR a lot less fun.

our alliance Cthulu knights currently havd 12 members guilds and around 300 members
we are quite lax with regards alliance chat and mostly use it for forming groups and having fun and a good laugh where as some other alliance may use it strictly for RvR purposes i guess it depends on what you are looking for out of your alliance

we organise hunts as an alliance and have a huge range of levels

anyway give me a shout ingame and i`d be happy to give you a bit of advice
