Hi. Thinking of ordering one of their systems over the web. Anyone know of any problems with them - credit card wise, performance etc. It seems a lot of cash and so far they seem a bit dim. Any comments please.

alienware gear is absolute class, you wont find any better riggups or service, but at the price of a hefty wad of cash :)

Build your own save cash and get EXACTLY what u want, admittedly Alienware are fully customisable to a point but i personally think the keybaords/cases are fucking putrid and over priced.

Never heard of alienware before this post, but now I'm very interested, was thinking of building a new pc soon anyway and although I'm fully capable of doing it, knowing my luck i'll get a device conflict or I'll buy something that isn't compatable with the rest of the system so a company that makes gaming pcs will be great, but:

How over priced are they?

and Land was that uber meaning very expensive or very good value? Im thinking you mean the 1st but just checking

Case looks crap. You want a nice roomy case that's easy to ventilate, work with and expand.
And £3k is an absolute joke. There is no way any PC should cost near that.

Alienware.com is about 20 to 30% cheaper than alienware.co.uk

If you know someone in the US you can pick up/who'll deliver to you so you don't pay the duty stamp, buy from them.

They have more options to customise your machine than alienware.co.uk, too.

That said, i agree. My personal opinion is that their laptops can't be beaten, but if you want to buy a desktop, buy elsewhere.

And yes, I'm a customer of their's. My lappy's a Rolls-Royce with the engine of a Ferrari... and cost as much as both rolled into one, too. But it's GREAT !

Alienware are known to be one of the best custom PC builders around. But atm, they really have little in the way of competition.

However try:

http://www.kustompcs.co.uk (ayr, scotland based)

or

http://www.theoverclockingstore.co.uk (sheffield, yorkshire based)

or

http://www.scan.co.uk (bolton, lancs based)

I've personally been to all 3 and, they are very friendly. I've seen the complete systems they build for people. And every one i could not put down, they will tailor it to your needs if you tell them what you want it for and how extreme you want it. They are cheaper than any High St shop, for the hardware. You dont get the bundle of crap software tho, although you will get the stuff that comes with each bit. Driver software, games discs etc. Each part is under its own warrenty anyhow, for that coverage. If you can build your own systems, like myself then they have the most upto date lists of stuff with prices that reflect the current market and not what it was 3 months ago.

lol, i've spent upto 4k on a PC in that past 12 months. Depends how cutting edge and pretty you want it. I'm just about to spend 250 on speakers this month. I'll outlay another 400, in July for gfx card, and probably 1500 in sept just for a Athlon 64 + Mobo + Mem, or more depending on dual Opteron specs at the time. For god sake, i spent 250 on case ;)

What graphics card is £400?
Even the new fx5900 is not that much, afaik thats the most expensive home gfx card(whether its the best, still remains to be seen).

Please avoid www.Scan.co.uk as they are known locally as SCAM, they have been reported to trading standards dozens of times for refusing to RMA goods.
