Apparently, they are planning to release Alien (digitially remastered - Directors cut) to appeal to the "younger generation"

Well worth a watch Munkey.

Alien and Aliens are definately excellent films

the 3rd installment is worth watching if you have spare time on your hands.

after that, they just get silly.

Apparently they are in talks about making a fifth Aliens film (Aliens Vs Predator) but havent heard much more about that.

It sounds like you're saying this re-release is cut for a younger audience. If anything it's the opposite. To quote the director it's now "scarier than ever".

I can't wait to go see Alien at the cinema. I've held of buying Alien boxsets for years because I always knew they'd milk the cash cow for all it's worth. I have them all on VHS and watch them rarely so seeing Alien "all done up" will be a treat. :)

Alien 3 was awful, but Alien 4 was a good film, almost matching Aliens (2), which was the best IMO.

I didn't watch Alien 4 because Alien 3 was so bad.

well, (not saying you are wrong Xane) but everyone is entitled to opinions.

Alien and Aliens were the best 2 in my opinion. alien 3 was good up to a point. Alien 4 was dire pile of shite

But....each to their own

I didn't mean to come accross as really picky just wanted to make sure what you meant. :)

In terms of how good the films are:
1. Aliens
2. Alien
3. Alien Ressurection
9434344. Alien3

Alien 3 is the biggest bunch of arse.

It might have helped if Alien 3 had of had only one director. Nobody doubts David Fincher's talent now, but back then, he was an unknown quantity. I think they should have had a better mix of prisoners, perhaps not all with English accents.

The new Ridley Scott version of 'Alien' is included in the Alien Quadrilogy Box Set but the cinema will be the best place to see it. I've only see Alien 3 once but can't recall much about it. Is that the one with Charles Dance and Brian Glover?

That's the one. They both put in reasonable perfomances but I just hate the directional style of it all. The slanted view of things happening in slow motion and the "Alien eye-view" just plain sucked.

The book, although a novelisation of the film Alien3 is based on an early draft of the script and is much better.

I found all of the films mildly boring. None of them were really that tense or scary imo yet they are regarded as some of the best films made.

Good lord. :/

I'm not sure I'd ever say these films are amongst the best ever made but I think that within they're genre they're among the best.

Alien 3 is a very good film in it's own right.

Alien4 - some kind of sick joke. Dire plot, dire acting, dire everything. At least Alien3 can redeem part of itself on it's own merits as a FILM, and not just because it's part of a good series. :D

Alien 3 is my favourite, its just really well done IMO. Alien 4 was fun, I enjoyed it, admittedly it wasnt near as good as the previous 3.

I have them all on video bar 4, and the Alien dvd boxset (the old one not the new one). Am considering getting the new Quadrology.

Aliens
Alien
Alien 3
Alien 4

3's better than 4 simply because it recalls the original.

4 was watchable, but not in the same class, but by no means bad per se.

He's at it again ffs, do you like ANY films? Or just the shit ones made by Film 4 before it went bankrupt?

Alien: Landmark.
Aliens: By the numbers action movie, but done to perfection. Camerons best work apart, as good as Terminator even. Another landmark.
Alien 3: Pants, but better than Resurrection. These two movies killed it coz nobody is scared of CGI Aliens, which were horribly crap. Liked the bit with the Alien chasing them though, but even that was so-so.
Alien Resurrection: Shite. See above. Worst ending ever: Ripley; "We've done it, we saved the world".
Fuck off Sigourney, you're better than this.

Did anyone go to Alien War, run by 20th Century Fox at trocadero in London (it closed years ago). It was an excellent experience in my opinion, although a little dangerous.

You are led by an armed marine through a complex while pursued by Aliens, it actually felt like you were on the ship. The Marine got visitors involved and I must say it did get the adrenaline flowing (scared the shit out of me). Myself and a mate were sent down a pitch black corridor, the marine told us to keep to the wall, just as we got half way down the marine started screaming for us to come back and started shooting his gun, my mate felt something touch him, then you heard the aliens coming. This is where it got dangerous because everyone shit themselves and it was just a mass of people running down a semi dark corridor of a ship, I remember some kid falling over and everyone just ran over him and didnt even look back.

The bit that sticks in my mind is when we all got into the elevator, as it was going down something jumps ontop of it, the whole elevator shook violently then stopped, the marine shoots his gun and all of a sudden the doors open, you see an alien for a split second and then it grabs someone from the lift and carried them off.

The stobe lights made the aliens look very realistic (as they are on the films), when i went back a couple of months later it had closed down.

some links I found on the web about it

I've had friends that went and they absolutely raved about it, Kenny went twice and he loved it. I'd loved to have gone. It's such a bitch that it's closed down, just disappeared :( I went in something similar in Bournemouth called the Labyrinth (I think, long time ago) and that was pretty scary, so imagining a big budget and aliens behind something like that would be cool.

I say we start a campaign to bring it back! Or do you reckon it wouldn't be allowed now with all the suing culture?

Alien War fucking rocked! I went twice.

The first time I went there was the best. I guess it depends on how good an actor the marine/guide is.

I was at the back when we went round this one corner and the marine yells for us to go back the way we came....which means I was at the front. Well this corridor was PITCH BLACK, I mean I couldn't see a fucking thing. People behing me were pushing and shoving and I'm yelling at them "STOP FUCKING PUSHING!!! I CAN'T SEE A THING!!!".

Then all of a sudden the strobe lights start up and I swear I don't know ho wI didn't fill my pants. Right next to me was this 20ft tall * alien coming at me! My efforts to push people back increased yet they were still coming round the corner running from whatever the marine was pushing at so I was basically stationary with this alien coming towards me.

Eventually it reached me and starts pawing at me with his alien fingers and I'm yelling and screaming and pushing the crowd back whilst my mate's wetting himself and yelling even higher pitched than I was. Eventually the crowd get the message and start running back the other way with a bit of encouragement from the marine.

One of the scariest moments in my life and it was utterly artificial.

There were so many cool things. Like when you got hearded into the APC and think you're safe and you're getting comfy and strapped in and he yells "QUICK!! CHECK UNDER YOUR SEATS FOR FACE HUGGERS!!". I swear people lifted their legs so fast they nearly knocked themselves unconscious with thier own knees.

The lift bit was quite scary but when he grabbed the women it felt a little staged.

The ending was a laugh cos as you're queuing to go in, you're right by the exit to the show and you need to keep it clear. Everyone comes running out pissing themselves with fear and all the public walking past and queuing up get to laugh at how silly and scared they look....until it's your turn. you never know what part of the show you're going to be hearded out the door and you're so sucked in that when you go outside, you're genuinely scared and screaming like a girl.

(*maybe a slight exageration)
