Damnit, I entered all the competitions and stuff that I could find for the closed beta key give-away and I didn't get a single one yet :/
I don't suppose anyone has a spare?

got my promised beta spot because of being subbed to TR when it closed.... its not THAT bad i suppose.

not all that grindy like every other asian MMO, plenty of quests that give good xp and ok item rewards.

but those wings you earn cant be used in most places, and when you can, not for very long as your "endurance" run out in about 2 minutes.. so it makes having them pretty useless.

and EVERYTHING costs money. taxi, teleports. curing rezz sickness, binding at a spot, skills etc etc etc. and most of it isnt cheap either.

a couple of untimely deaths and your gonna be broke unless you wait for the rezz sickness to wear off by itself (and then you wont get the XP back).

gonna hold judgement a while longer because i really want to like this game, but i dunno...

Anybody in this weekends CB?

How is it?

Ctuchik, if you dont want a beta spot, chuck it my way - the wings develop as you level, in the pvp zones they last forever so you can fly as much as you like.

I'm in now and loving it.
First 10 levels are the prologue the story writing is fantastic theres a huge plot and if you take the time you feel really involved, especially if you read the lore on their website too. At around 10 you choose your class and an important plot development takes place.

not tried pvp yet, but watch this space.

Sounds good, does this have a firm EU release yet?

Also let us know how the flying is.

dinged 16 on my spiritmaster today and now i'm really starting to struggle. pets doesent seem to have any useful taunt skill, all you get is a manual skill that tells the pet to taunt, wich cant be used if your already casting a skill as it to have a cast time.

actually you cant order the pet to do anything at all if you are already casting a spell. and the taunt is on a fairly long cooldown and isnt all that good, a nuke or 2 and i can generally out aggro it no problem. and the pets (all 3 of the ones i have) doesent have much of any defenses, so they die almost as fast as i do.

still lots of quests to do but they are starting to get to high level so they havent totally gotten rid of the oh so fantastic asian grindfest.

its still not that bad, but its starting to become bad enough. especially since there really isnt any good places to grind. you spend more time running between the mobs then killing them.

basically i have the same feeling about this game as i did with Auto Assault and Tabula Rasa, cool game on paper but probably wont have a healthy EU/US pop a year after release.

and then we have the small but really annoying things, such as you cant turn on autorun if you have mouselook engaged, and you cant use insta cast spells if you DO have autorun on because then you stop and doesent start running again untill you press forward or engage autorun again.

played a ranger to lvl 13 and was struggeling even more on that, 2 ranged skills and both on craptastic cooldowns. so you have to either wait for that or run up and start to melee in your uber leather armor >.<

unless you wanna kite it and risk bodypulling even more aggro that is. as theres tons and tons of "social aggro" in this game.

also tried a healer (turned chanter thats supposed to be a frontline healer) to lvl 10. and i just cant understand why healers were given a heal over time. at lvl 10 it heals for about 17 a tick ~8 times every 2 seconds, and with 750 - 800 HP its just a waste of cast time to use it. other then that its doing ok i guess, didnt play it that much after 10 as healers in any form isnt my thing.

havent gotten around to play warrior yet so cant say anything about that, but from what i've seen by watching others play its doing pretty good, and is also described as a "idiot friendly" class on character creation.

think CoH/CO but with a monstrous end drain :) its pretty cool but as its very limited WHERE you can fly its more fluff then useful at the moment. it will change later but atm its of no significant use.

/edit: as in you cant fly in any of the major quest zones. you CAN glide from high places, wich is slightly useful but still not so much as there really isnt all that many high places you can get up to :)

Hey you know it has some crazy illegal protection system where it installs a rootkit on your pc right?

Its called GameGuard from Nprotect - nProtect GameGuard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

I say illegal because in Europe it would require specific permission but it sneaks in like a virus - its the whole Starforce issue again...

Sadly enough it doesnt even work - doh!

Ah will take the game off my buy list then if you can't fly when you want then i see no point in wings.

no its pretty useless while leveling up.

tho you probably shoukd try the game first as it has some pretty nice moments, the storyline quests for example are pretty damn enjoyable.

havent had any problems with gameguard yet. it says in the installation that its required to play, so it doesent "sneak in" at all. and if ppl dont bother to read it its not gameguard or NCsofts fault.

Doesnt work as in its whole purpose is to prevent cheats and it fails at that - its easy to keep changing the cheatware so that its no longer recognised by this sort of approach so its pretty token but with possible nasty effects on your system.

It blocks steam for instance and doesnt always shutdown when you exit the game apparently.

Got to do some PvP on my 20 Assassin this weekend, took a guild group through one of the rifts into the enamy pve lands and wrecked a little havoc, hiding up somewhere really high and dive bomb ambushing the enamy is a bunch of laughs.

PvP feels interactive and fluid, looks nice and was good fun, despite the low level class imbalance.

Looking forward to trying the Abyss next event.

Great question - Also how is aerial combat? I saw a video and I had no clue what was going on, numbers flying about everywhere and everyone looked like Harpies!

I'm not sure if we were getting xp, the abyss point gains popping up were quite noticable but can't say i was watching for xp gains, none of my group can r

I believe it was added in one of the early korean patchs so it will deffinatly be in for the western release if its not already in the current preview events.

At level 20 the ariel combat was a little limited due to the short flight durations available at the lower levels, apart from a few ariel duels with guildmates the only experiance we had at ariel combat was ganking enemies, perched out of sight high up then dropping out of the trees and gliding right into a bunch of players is priceless, the most common reaction was blind panic, i think alot of fights will end up being started by one side coming in from above, so keep your eyes on the sky!

The next event should give a better insight into proper ariel combat.

Two quick points - gameguard isn't even confirmed for Western release yet - may not be in.

Second, at level cap in the pvp zones you can fly indefinitely. The limitation on flying times makes total sense when you get into the story. Also, once I got my wings, I haven't had a huge problem flying around, it looks bloody cool, I stayed logged in for a while just playing with it in a town because it was so awesome.

yes flying is great, when you can use it. run out in the woods that is the main quest hub and your all out of luck when it comes to flying.

limited flying time dont bother me to much, but why the hell give me wings just to prevent me from using them in areas i NEED to use them in?

i mean, theres been so much bitching about that they had to implement a extra (small) area that you had to fly up to to get quests. and thats kinda taking the piss.

i mean, theres not a single area that you have to pass that you cant use a normal "taxi mount" for. so why the hell cant we just use our wings....

I am very much enjoying this game so far and plan on buying it at release.

I'm fine with the limited flying time and no-fly zones because flying as transport isn't very fun anyway. And besides you can still glide in no-fly zones: basically you get to the top of a hill and jump off and can travel a large distance before hitting the ground (you just can't gain any height), which is more enjoyable than flying.

Flying is mainly used for pvp combat and they have various lore reasons (/excuses) for not being able to fly in lots of normal pve zones.

My main problems are that I don't really enjoy solo questing: which is what the game pretty much forces you to do at the start. However as you approach level 20 grouping becomes more viable and perhaps more useful than being solo which is good.

Also you can't really PvP (other than a ffa arena) up until 20 and even then it's quite limit until level 25.

I have heard lots of bad things about game guard but I have had no problems with it myself so I dunno really.

What little aerial combat I have done has been very fun. The combat system is alright, it's just like the standard in most mmos with an easy to use combo system.

Also the graphics look pretty good and it runs a lot smoother than WAR ever did.

Being used during the preview weekends thus far :)

Echo most comments of others rather enjoying it thus far and will most likely purchase come release.

I dont mean to be rude but are you guys seriously considering putting yourself through the pain of this korean style grindfest??

I cant see anything actually new in there and a few bits I hoped had been consigned to the great dustbin of the past?

I really cannot see it doing well in the west.
