Aimbots historically come in two main flavours; a change to the game DLLs or an external proxy. The only known Q3 aimbots are just changes to the client code. This coupled with a patched main binary to falsely report 'ok' to a pure server. As Q3's net code is more secure that previous games, I have not heard of any proxies yet.

As for the question, have you been aimbotted? You cant really tell just by how many times someone rails you. There are players, high ping or not, who can split nostril hairs at 100 paces. The only real way to spot an aimbot is to spectate the player in question and look for 'unatural' movements. So far the only known aimbots are really simple affairs and stick out like a sore thumb when you spectate them.

Dont forget the sub-gendre of aimbot; the 'shoot-bot'. This does nothing with the aim but simply presses fire when the sight goes over an enemy player.

Well, I'm a LPB and my railing sucks so much there's never any fear of me being accused of being a bot :D but anyway .. I actually find it easier to rail people in the air.

Once you're jumping / falling / RJing, your movement is much more predictable (there's still some air control, but not as much as on the ground).

It's the people dodging randomly backwards and forwards on the ground that are a pig to hit.

The best place to practice this is in RA3 .. just wait for them to do a nice high RJ, then swap to RG and pick 'em off on the way down. :)

So far Q3 aimbots seem to be .exe hacks rather than proxies (as tended to be the case with QW and Q2).

As FT says, its hard to actually spot a aimbot (and be certain) unless your spectating the player in question. Its the shootbots that really worry me because they are a lot harder to notice.
