Well, Gadaffi has proved himself to be a very smart and astute politician over the last few years, and the problem I see hampering most Africian politics, the the countries are divided up according to the views of the colonial powers that were previously there, and politics is ruled by tribal divisions where it does exist at all (there are exceptions, I know), would be overcome by this scheme.

But the shadow of the Sub-Saharan African AIDS epidemic is going to be a huge burden, and until they overcome this obstacle, I can't see this coming to fruitition. The extra political clout the AU may be able to achieve could help when dealing with this though, which can only be positive.

They dont have a chance imho. Peaceleeping forces are more like policemen with big guns who are unable to intervene without orders in triplicate and signed by everyone thus absolving them from the moral blame of having hit someone, gun or otherwise.


just look at the UN. they can acheive fuck all.

This union will be aunable to enforce their policies and if they try to, it will have to be with military force seeing as most of them have a hard time listening to anybody who does not promote their viewpoint. If military force is used then they'll be dubbed "tyrants" and all that and will appear to be no better off except with fierce international pressure to decease.

However, if they manage to clear up their act in their areas that they already govern, e.g. lower crime rate, ensure protection of nationals. I feel that they will be able to attract foregin investment to the are, but only if they feel secure considering all the news items.


to conclude. some great founding ideals e.g. spreading of democracy etc. but it has been tried before with very little success.

The Western powers really should stop pussy footing around and just assasinate people like this invade and install UN governed goverments. Whats the point in waiting decades for a remote possibility that it will sort itself out.

It is a step forward for a continent that is a pile of troubles and pains.
it will not work though but it is not a dreamland idea.
