ok yes :p i know i have told everyone and his lynx about my experience tonight but now i actually am curious ...

tonight, i was asked for advice/information about the enchanter epic ..

him: u know anything about enchanter epic?
me: it sucks?
him: i mean if you can give me directions!
me: nope sorry, im an eldritch
him: then do not stay in the advisor list m8!
me: lol, im an eldritch, not a map!
him: but you are in advisor list .. you should stay there if you know anything about the game!!!

ok so my question is to you .... what should a person know in order to qualify as an advisor? should i be a human online map for everyone's epic? is he right? just your views on this ...

anyway, discuss!

Ask him to ask me.

Im on the advisor list all the time and can answer just about any question about epics, GS, Galla etc etc.

You need like 8hrs playtime to go on advisor list, which is stupid imo. If your gonna set yourself up as a pve advisor then I recon 100+hrs playtime and at least 3lvl50s ;)

Always have my advisor flag on, ever since my first toon hit 50 (prolly 2 years now).

1 week ago i turned it off for good after a string of immature, childish and sometimes offensive /advice messages.

Here's an example (a tame one):

Numptynumber1: Hey there, why did you roll a warden?

Me: They used to be a great support character, easy to get a group and a lot of fun to play for someone like myself who likes support roles.

Numptynumber1: But they suck donkeyballs :p

Me: Hmm, is there a specific problem or question i can help you with?

Numptynumber1: No, fuck off you gimped twat.

Me: Thank you for abusing the /advice system, please feel free to idle on my ignore list for as long as you want, goodbye :)

This is, as i say, one of the tamer messages.

Out of the last 10 /advice queries i have had maybe 2-3 were players actually wanting advice on something, the rest were a waste of time.

Did however have one experience similar to yours Nuked, a guy asked me how to get to MagMell (was a lvl 4 in connla, obviously a new player) so i told him to get a horse to DL and jump at MagMell..........10 minutes later i get a pm from a very disgruntled lvl 4 in innis carthaig asking me why the horse didnt go thru MagMell.
I explain to this fella that he got the wrong horse, bought the wrong ticket and he demands a refund!! He refused to accept that he could have made a mistake and demanded to be warped to MagMell that instant!! When i calmly explained i wasnt a GM, just an advisor he goes off half-cocked about the roles of a CSR etc etc (bla bla).
In the end i went to innis and bought him a ticket to connla and refunded his 5 silver just to stop him crying.

i dont mind answering questions, i just dont understand why im expected to know or be able to give directions for an epic i dont even do! (next your gana tell me that chanter and eld have the same quest :D:rolleyes:) as for giving directions, the quest isnt a 2 step 5minute job!.. maybe i should have given the addy for a site with a walkthrough!

Hmm. Never had that problem. Maybe coz I play at daft hours and people are too tired to think of decent insults or the kids are in bed.

The advisor system is really good for the new players. If I can't answer a question that's legitimate and a decent question then I'll ask the guild. If they don't know and I have time I'll look on the web. If I can't find an answer then the new player will have to go find it himself.

Usually it's questions like 'Hi I'm doing epic/quest 'blah' and can't find 'blah'.'. They are easy. If I'm close and a bit bored I'll usually go help the guy whack whatever mob he needs or lob a buff or two on him

Occasionally I get the 'How should I spec my Animist/Warden/Bard/Chanter' depending on what I'm playing at the time to which the answer will always be 'Spec it to do whatever you think will be fun. You can always respec a single line at 20 and 40'

Never had flames or insults and taunts though.

Yeah, same as kerosene tbh, lots of questions about how to do epic quests, and how to spec characters. Never had any abuse.

Firstly i must say....
...stop doing GoA's work for free.

On the other hand if you want to do it, do it to help new players and do it honestly, if you think beeing an advisor is just cool and then be witty or a smart ass then don't do it at all.

I don't think you should be a walking map but giving an answer like "it sucks" isn't very helpfull either.

You could have given this guy a link to a mapsite or tell him the name of a person to ask the same question.

Your answer implies people can only ask you stuff about eldrichtes while i think advisors should be people who have some common knowledge about the game in general and also some info about other classes.

well he said it himself, unless you know anything about the game, you shouldnt be an advisor, and since you do know something(not much :p ) about the game, you can be an advisor, e-z as that.

some of you make good points, the "it sucks?" remark was a bit unhelpful. (its true though :p) but at that time i didn't know what kind of information he was after, if he had asked me about the armor itself, such as stats or something, then sure i can help. my general knowledge of the game i would say is very good. also my knowledge on certain classes, skills, specs, GS and names of good crafters.
This convo was set while i was in emain, i could have given another name of a person who might know, OR .. he could type /advice and check the list for himself, you may say this is unhelpful, but its what i do personally, if the first person doesnt know the answer, i say thanks anyway, and move on.

anyway back to the question im actually asking ....

whats the minimum i should know? ... i dont do many quests, i dont go on galla raids, so i wont know much info on these things! does that mean i should come off the list?

p.s. go report me for emote spamming you or something adari. or i can allways give you advice on how to turn emotes off!

i went an advisor on all 3 of my chars after i had learned about 80% of the thigns they could do

as for knowing about hibernia thats probably a side bonus as we are they to give advise about classes not really about hib as a whole albeit we might know info on where to hunt at certain lvls or where a named mob is from our own experience

If you ask me not enuff people use the advice option as all mine are flagged and i get asked maybe 1 or 2 questions a month

might just be an indicatoin of how little the amount of new players is

fyi :p i get asked weekly, usually about good places to hunt as u say, not often about eldritch, occasionally about what is a good guild for a person looking for rvr/roleplay/xp

edit: weekly etc :s

umm its mainly about your class.. so why would he actually know ANYTHING about the Chanter epic?

Do YOU know the chanter epic?
or how about the Ranger one....or the Eldy? no you probably dont cos you might not play those chars..it doesnt make you a bad advisor.. ffs the n00b asked an Eld about the Chanter stuff and EXPECTED him to just know? thats dumb he deserved to be laffed at!!

I get queries all the time about stuff ive never done... if its a mob or where to hunt no probs..i can give directions to within a few hundred units..even most lowbie quests ive done..but if someone asked me about the Savage Epic stuff i wouldnt have a clue...nor would most people....so by your reckoning i shouldnt be an Advisor? ive played over 1 1/2 years//but yet im not good enuff? i can give general advice about specs..weps... if he wanted a quest guide he should have just looked it up on google..not bitched at him for not knowing....

anyways... good on you mate keep being an advisor...its a thankless job but it helps build community..and there's less and less advisors these days....

just randomly scrapped half your post to save quote space. No-one on advisor list is expected to know the be all and end all of the game.
However its not unrealistic to expect general direction from an advisor. If he doesnt know about chanter epic he could have said so and pointed him towards a chanter he knows, or a website daoc.warcry.com for example.
Replying with it sucks, just makes you look like a ten year old twat and in no way belong in the advisor list.

The advisor list doesnt include 100% of classes for the realm so a lot of time people will be asked questions for an unrelated char. No reason to give someone crap for a reply when all they ask for is help or direction.

Im not on advisor list, because i cba spending the time i do play telling others how to play. But if ever someone does ask me something i help them if i can.

ohh yeah, what i meant to quote.... good on him for saying it sucks instead of 'i dont know' builds community?

I have nothing against nuked but think he gave a bad response....... an understandable one if he was just another guy, but he choose to be an advisor so should advise.
