I might be able to afford a new pc box soon.

Can anyone recommend a place where they are well priced and not shoddy quality. I could probably build one myself but if the price of a good one is ok I'd rather save the hassle.

I need as many recommended places as possible.

Thanks in advance mates.

Avoid all major PC shops like PC World and Time Computers, they'll only rip you off. If I were you I'd check your local yellow pages for a small computer company (one that doesn't rely on TV adverts and stuff to advertise) that supplies PCs to people with up to date components and work it out from there, you'll prolly find a better price from a company who's motto is "Just cos this guy wont pay our outrageous prices doesn't mean the rest of the world are smart enough to realise we're conning them too"

Good luck finding a good company m8

Like F.I.V said, avoid the big companies and find a local shop :)

from 3dmark test (just a fun quote, nothing to do with anything"

anywhoo, best advice, find a webpage that has compared prices with all the webshops in your country and order the parts from different shops so you always get the cheapest and build it yerself i guess?

Failing that move to Norway and click in @ www.hardware.no

I've used Novatech.co.uk for years, and have never had any problems with any of their components. They also have a service that you can use to design your pc from the case onwards.

built my own on friday

GeForce4 Ti4800, 128mb DDR ram
1 gig DDR ram PC2700 (2 x 512)
120 gb hard disk
Asus nForce2 mobo, built in network card, 5.1 stereo
AMD Athlon 2500 Xp...
Aluminium case with 5 fans
PSU with 2 fans

Paid just over 800 quid... got the parts from www.overclockers.com

can easily shave off a hundred quid or more by downsizing... gfx card, hard disk, ram, case, etc

better deal than any of the junk thats currently being sold on the market

This depends on exact specs but frmo ebuyer:
GeForce4 Ti4800, 128mb DDR ram : £158.12
120 gb hard disk : £96.54
Asus nForce2 mobo, built in network card, 5.1 stereo : £115.84
AMD Athlon 2600 Xp... : £140.71 inc
Aluminium case with 5 fans : CANT FIND A MATCHED - GUESS £100
PSU with 2 fans : £45
/edit forgot the ram:
x2 512 strips @£42.49 each : 84.98

Total : 738 including VAT

got my spec from there and no complaints. They even refunded me a part with no hassle.

Having said this the mboard is not the same (this one is 6.1 etc) and some of the bits might be, erm, extravagent?:) Although if you're overclocking some of these are probably a must:)
