I went to the dentist this morning, my usual 6 month checkup and thought I'd mention that the side of my jaw, not the teeth, is quite tender...

My dentist did an x-ray and said there's no problem with the teeth but he thinks its because I've been grinding or clenching my jaw and asked if I was under any stress. Well, it was a pretty stressful last few months with several factors piling up but I'm quite sorted now so wasn't sure why my jaw was hurting now.

Anyway, I get home and start doing my studying and notice that due to the extreme cold in my sodding flat I am sat here with my teeth clamped so firmly shut I am due to develop jaw muscles like desperate dan! So now I have to be conscious all the time to monitor my jaw clampage (I haven't damaged my teeth but have been getting blood blisters on the inside of my cheek) and I keep catching myself doing it!

I was wodering if someone here might have a similar problem and can suggest a (non blow job related; none of those 'ere ya go love get your teeth round this' jokes) method of stopping before I actually do some damage to me gnashers.

Much obliged

xxx

(btw if anyone suggests dress warmer, I am currently sat next to the heater wearing long johns, tracky bottoms, vest, sweater with hood up, smoking jacket & socks)

try chewing gum as said.

another alternative is get a "gum shield" or whatever they call them now days.

My missus grinds her teeth at night and got sour jaw etc from doing so, now she wears one them things and she not had many problems since doing so.

Surprised your dentist didnt actually mention this option, but no doubt it was a nhs dentist so they probably wouldnt :p

A friend had the same problem many years ago and the solution that worked for him was to use a gum shield like boxers use in his mouth. Even when he slpt which must have been weird as fook but it worked and he was fine after 6 months or so.

EDIT*** Didnt check Corrans reply but he is spot on.

Doc FH to the rescue!!

You need to wear while sleeping one of those thingies that boxers put in their mouths to stop chewing their tongues, that will prevent any dmg to your gnashes, And yes, its all stress related.

The sports one are moulded for your teeth aswell.

I have gotten one from the dentist and I have used one while playing hockey. Haven't used them in a long time so i cant say if there is any difference tho.

You put the sport one into boiling water and then fit it into your mouth (it will become shapeable after heating).

lol well; I think it is a mixture of stress and the cold, today it is warmer and I am not clenching my teeth so my jaw doesn't hurt. I looked online for those mouth guards and crikey they are expensive!

Though there is one from hong kong on ebay that is like £3 and you boil it to fit your mouth lol...I think not somehow.

don't buy them from hong kong on ebay you don't know what kind of vetting it went through >< , just bite the bullet and get it from your local sports shop tbh
They are only £10 or so aren't they?

You heat it up using hot water and then wait a few seconds for it to get cool enough to put in your mouth :p

Ez, you have to be more zen. Try some proven methods of Yoga that Buddhists monks perform.
