I know this topic has been beaten to death with a dead girl on a dead horse...How ever I would like to ask requiel one simple queston that I hope he can give a nice clear answer too.

You had said there is a massive advertising campaign for the launch of the box set for Europe however what plans and what scale is the advertising planned for the UK alone...as I have seen nothing 6 days before launch :(

Please do not flame this is a direct request to a GM, however constructive comments are welcome.

The last advertising I saw for DAOC was for SI and that was a post card type thing I saw in the local Cinema...

Would be nice to see some DAOC adverts! :)

This is the current cover of one of the biggest german gaming magazines... and yes, that's a free version of daoc + si you get with it :)

This is the third time now they put a daoc version on the cover CD (1. open beta client, 2. the free Lothian-test-server account, and now 3. a free version of daoc + SI)

I actually got this magazine; one page in there is dedicated to daoc calling it the "best pvp mmorpg". So even though there aren't any ads about daoc, it still gets some coverage over here. Oh, and last time I went to my local gaming store there were more boxes of catacombs than any other game. (Well, maybe because no one buys it ;) ).

Why isn't this possible in the UK? I don't want to play on a german server since I enjoy meeting people from different countries and don't really like the translation... but since I renewed the server population on Prydwen almost made me leave and restart on avalon. :/

So: Hand out free versions of daoc + si + toa in the UK imo :) We need to grab some of those first-time-mmorpgers-who-now-get-bored-of-wow ;)

A lot of people I know, who you would call gamers,
as in PC gamers, have never heard of DAOC.

How many here have had this conversation?

'What game do you play?'
'DAOC'
'Eh?'
'Dark age of Camelot'
'Dark age of whatalot?'
'DARK-AGE-OF-CAMELOT!!' (starts to sound silly to yourself as you spell it out)
'Oh right' (they look at you with that face reserved for trainspotters)

So...they advertise and push the game in Germany, and the German servers end up with the biggest population? Wow...who would have seen that coming? You promote a game, and people start playing it? Crazy.

So even though there aren't any ads about daoc, it still gets some coverage over here.

I am a fairly hardcore gamer. I read the gaming press regularly. I have never, ever, seen an advert for DAOC in any UK gaming magazine. Ever.

Yay, heya Chodio \o/
Erm, I mean... *cough* *cough* Thanks young one ;)
Nice to see so many of the old-school people around, even after all those years. Are you still playing? I'm currently playing as "Sandeh" on Prydwen, so gimme a shout if you're still around :D

Anyway, don't want to drift into "offtopicness", so back to the topic:

There weren't a lot of ads in germany either. Think I saw a full page ad once a short time before release. Guess the most german players back then started after trying the free open beta client.

At least that's how I and the people I played with started :)

I'd love to see a DAOC advert on TV, done with the right music (Karl Orff - O'Fortuna perhaps?) and some decent PVE/PVP shots it'd utterly obliterate all the shitty playstation ads ;)

DAOC advertisement is mainly Word of Mouth in the UK.

Personally I don't want to see large scale advertising for the game.
Since the WOW train came to town DAOC has moved into that glorious place.

It has become hardcore underground, you've gotta be cool to know about it and play it.

Of course none of this helps Mythic, bu they don't seem arsed themselves anyway.

I called it a day with DAoC about 4 months ago, played a little WoW and I can see why people like the game but it just wasn't for me, felt far too much like a singleplayer game at times and they don't reward for grouping very much at all. With tweaks and more reward for grouping though I would play it again in a heart beat. I was tempted to give Catacombs a go but I don't like the idea of new overpowered classes and I don't really want to get hooked on another MMO any time soon, enjoying real life too much ;)

DAoC is on the DVD disks of PC Gamer UK this month. (May 2005 Issue 148) You get a normal DAoC + SI 14 day trial. Also there used to be posters for SI before it was released, I know becuase there is one in my college common room for some reason. :p

PS. Sorry if above information has been posted before.

There's been a few bits in PC Zone over the years, not alot, but some. Previews, reviews and a couple of other pieces (think there was an interview with Matt Whatshisname and one of the journalists did a piece on his time playing DAOC) :)

Got an 8 page special trade release on DaoC (actually very well written tho 75% of the piccies were albs - somethings never change!) that came thru to my workplace. I'd assume they're trying to generate a demand to get the product onto the shelves and to that aim the brochure was pretty good in all fairness. To be fair they're trying so let's cut them a little slack :)

Takenf rom a post i made in another tread but seems relelvent :

on the back of the catacombes Manual :

Special thanks to :

Blah, blah blah,
Charlotte, Christina, Lee and Dean (Bastion, United Kingdom) for their Precious and active contributions to the promotion to DAoC.

We picked up Daoc because we went out looking for a game we could play only on line as we had just gotten broadband. We had already tried LOM, but didnt' like it, got this and well been playing away since then. The shop only gets in expansions becuase i've always gone there to pester them for it, so they keep an eye out for it ( even the Manager of the store now plays it =) ).
